About the role
In this role, you will deliver professional building services that support community safety and regulatory compliance. You will undertake compliance audits and enforcement activities in line with the Building Act 1993, while also contributing to permit assessment and approvals, and statutory registration and compliance functions within the business unit.

Work type: 12-month contract, full-time hours.
Classification: Band 5, $81,005 plus super

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the safety and amenity of building occupants through compliance and enforcement under Part 8 of the Building Act 1993.
  • Provide professional advice and information to internal stakeholders and the community.
  • Conduct site inspections and prepare reports, correspondence, notices and directions on behalf of the Municipal Building Surveyor.
  • Assist with documentation for legal proceedings and matters before the Building Appeals Board.
  • Deliver a professional, customer-focused advisory service using sound building knowledge and experience.
  • Assess building permit and consent applications to ensure legislative compliance and support efficient outcomes.
  • Support day-to-day functions across permit assessment, statutory registration, compliance and customer service within agreed timeframes.
  • Participate in an emergency on-call roster as required.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a recognised qualification such as Bachelor of Building Surveying, Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying, or similar.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience undertaking building enforcement activities under Part 8 of the Building Act 1993.
  • A proficient knowledge and ability to interpret building and associated legislation, regulations and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct investigations and manage enforcement matters in line with relevant statutory council requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate, negotiate, influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Must possess a valid and current white card and driving licence.

Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check and a Working with children's check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
