About the role
In this role, you will work collaboratively with organisers, emergency services, internal stakeholders and special agencies, you will help shape safe, vibrant and well-coordinated events across the municipality. This is a hands-on, relationship-driven regulatory position requiring sound judgement, strong communication skills and the confidence to make informed decisions in dynamic environments, both in the office and onsite. Classification: Band 6, $ 95760 + super.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assess event and film applications and issue permits promptly and accurately.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with organisers, emergency services, internal teams and key agencies.
  • Deliver clear, practical event management advice to support safe event delivery.
  • Provide proactive onsite support at events as required.
  • Promote and maximise event exposure through Events Geelong opportunities.
  • Support the delivery of City-supported and City of Greater Geelong managed events.
  • Develop and roll out effective stakeholder communication plans with organisers.
  • Embed robust risk management and safety practices across all events.
  • Actively contribute to Event Multi-Agency Working Group meetings.
  • Produce high-quality reports and professional correspondence in line with Unit standards.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience relevant to event management and/or conducting a regulatory role issuing permits.

Essential Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of OHS and risk management in public event settings.
  • Proven ability to build and sustain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise and manage competing deadlines.
  • Confident problem-solver who knows when to escalate.
  • Collaborative team player, adaptable to changing business needs.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with agility to respond to regulatory and process changes.
  • Flexibility to undertake out of hours work, including weekends and evenings.
  • Current, valid drivers licence
  • Tertiary qualification in event management or similar field (desirable)
  • Previous experience in a Local Government context (desirable)
  • Construction Induction training – White Card (desirable)

Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
