About the role
In this role you will be the key liaison for stakeholders across the organisation, you’ll gather requirements and drive the end-to-end creation of reports and analytical dashboards, from design and build to testing, UAT, and sign-off. You’ll collaborate closely with data engineers to shape the data and transformations needed, ensuring business needs are fully met through robust, insightful data models.

Classification: Band 8, $122,040 pa plus super
Key responsibilities include:
- Drive innovation by pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in delivering services that delight customers and the community.
- Handle workspace and user administration, implementing scalable access management while ensuring full compliance with the City’s IT security policies.
- Clearly communicate requirements to data engineers and network teams for data visualization, including new environments, resources, and performance improvements.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to understand challenges, opportunities, and business priorities that support the City’s strategic goals.
- Lead requirement and design workshops with business and technical teams, translating insights into dashboards, reports, and ETL/ELT logic.
- Manage the semantic layer in Qlik Cloud and Power BI data flows, enforce report lifecycle processes, audit usage, decommission redundant reports, and optimize user licences.
- Advise on ways to enhance data visualisation tools, techniques, and workflows, staying aligned with industry best practices.
- Lead the City’s visualisation user and developer network, set standards for themes, accessibility, and templates, and provide training and ongoing support.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management or equivalent. Alternatively, you will possess a combination of formal training and at least 10 years’ experience in a similar position.
Essential Experience:
- Proven expertise in enterprise data warehousing and analytics, including Power BI (Desktop & Server), Power BI datasets, or Qlik Sense/Cloud.
- Experienced in partnering with senior stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver tailored reporting and analytics solutions.
- Solid knowledge of dimensional data models and semantic layers, with a track record of collaborating effectively on design.
- Strong SQL skills to develop prototypes and provide actionable feedback to data engineering teams, enabling efficient and impactful visualisations.
- Skilled at leading sessions with stakeholders at all levels, from discovery and requirement gathering to final sign-off.
- Proven track record of providing technical thought leadership and mentoring junior data visualization specialists.
- Exceptional communication skills, writing, presenting, and speaking to align stakeholders and secure support for outcomes.
- Strong time management, with the ability to juggle competing priorities and multiple projects to consistently meet deadlines.
Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
