About the City Works Department
This department is part of our City Services Division.  It is the operations arm responsible for the construction of new and renewal projects, the maintenance and management of the City's built civil infrastructure, along with management of the City’s heavy and light fleet services.

About the Role
The Private Works Officer will be responsible for the successful delivery of minor third-party renewal work delivered through Council’s internal City Works Department on behalf of internal and external clients. The Private Works Officer will utilise established partnerships and forge new ones to create opportunities that supports the growth of Council’s private works portfolio.

Some of the key responsibilities in this role, will include:

  1.  Competently supervise and monitor the quality, efficiency and safe delivery of works carried out by contractors and in-house maintenance crews.
  2. Responsible for ensuring all works are delivered in accordance with the client brief, specifications, standards, OH&S requirements and contract conditions.
  3. Carry out site inspections on behalf of the client to ensure your work is being delivered within you cost, quality and safety commitments.
  4. Monitor construction techniques to ensure they are safe and in accordance with relevant Council procedures, submitted SWMS and all State and Federal Government legislation and standards.
  5. P&L budget management whilst refining the fee for service model to ensure COGG provides ‘best value’.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Relevant qualifications in civil engineering, local government, business or similar.
  • Significant experience in civil construction works including road pavements and unsealed surfaces, concrete works (kerb, channel and footpaths), drainage construction, sign installation or other road side related infrastructure.
  • Proven leadership within a multi-disciplinary environment with experience or ability in overseeing several field-based crews.
  • Experience in developing and promoting business offerings and identifying new opportunities for markets and services.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen, with experience in contract management and business planning, including financial and resource management
  • Ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships.
