About the role
In this role, you will provide arboricultural expertise across capital and public-realm projects, ensuring the protection and effective management of trees from planning through to delivery. You will lead compliance with Council policies, and best-practice standards, while undertaking Electrical Line Clearance inspections in accordance with Council requirements.

Classification: Band 6 Commencing at $95,760 pa plus super
Key responsibilities include:
- Apply contemporary arboricultural theory, practices and maintenance techniques in line with relevant legislation, industry standards and best‑practice guidelines.
- Provide high‑quality customer service, professional arboricultural advice, and clear written reports to internal and external stakeholders to support best‑practice management of Council‑owned and managed trees.
- Ensure arboricultural activities comply with key standards and regulations, including the Electricity Safety (Electric Line Clearance) Regulations, AS 4373–2007 Pruning of Amenity Trees, AS 4970–2025 Protection of Trees on Development Sites, and AS 2303–2018 Tree Stock for Landscape Use.
- Train and actively support others in the team by sharing knowledge to achieve common development goals.
- Prepare high‑quality external correspondence that is clear, professional and aligned with organisational standards.
- Utilise Council’s geo‑spatial systems effectively and maintain accurate and up‑to‑date information within the Council’s tree asset database.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will hold a Diploma of Arboriculture with substantial professional experience in the field, and a UET20321 Certificate II in Powerline Vegetation Control (Assessor).
Essential Experience
- Demonstrated professional experience in arboriculture, particularly in managing trees within capital works or infrastructure projects.
- Proven application of Australian Standards including AS 4970 – Protection of Trees on Development Sites and AS 4373 – Pruning of Amenity Trees.
- Experience undertaking tree inspections, risk assessments and vegetation management in proximity to powerlines in accordance with the Electricity Safety (Electric Line Clearance) Regulations.
- Strong arboricultural report writing skills and ability to provide clear technical advice to stakeholders.
- Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and contractors to achieve compliant project outcomes.
- Proficiency in GIS and Microsoft Office systems to manage tree asset data and reporting.
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
- Current Working with Children Check (employee).
- Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
