About the role
As Team Leader Accounts Payable, you will lead and oversee the delivery of efficient, accurate and compliant accounts payable services across Council. Reporting to the Manager Financial Reporting, you will guide and support a team of Accounts Payable Officers, ensuring supplier payments are processed in line with legislative requirements, internal controls and procure-to-pay policies.

This role combines people leadership, system administration and process improvement. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers and audit providers to resolve complex issues, strengthen governance practices and drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service delivery and financial performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and support the Accounts Payable team to deliver accurate, timely and customer-focused payment services in line with Council values.
  • Oversee end-to-end procure-to-pay processes, ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, internal controls and audit requirements.
  • Manage supplier payments, reconciliations and month-end activities, maintaining accurate financial records and system integrity.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers and audit providers, resolving complex issues and escalations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimisation, system enhancements and performance monitoring.

Essential Experience:

  • Relevant qualification in Business Management and or significant professional experience in an Accounts Payable position in a comparable organisation.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, policies and procedures relating to financial management and purchasing‑to‑pay processes in a public sector environment.
  • Proficient in financial software Accounts payable systems (e.g., Oracle Financials).
  • Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check.
