About the role
In this role, you will lead the development, review and implementation of strategic land-use plans, policies and planning scheme amendments that guide sustainable growth across the City. You will provide expert planning advice, manage complex projects, and support informed decision-making through research, analysis and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Work type: Temporary Full-time (until 26.6.26). Consideration to Part-time.
Classification: Band 7 Commencing at $106,158 pa plus super pro rata
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing planning scheme amendments in line with relevant legislation.
Leading and contributing to the preparation of strategic plans, guidelines and policies.
- Providing professional planning advice and ensuring strategic considerations are addressed.
- Reviewing and analysing documents from internal and external sources.
- Preparing briefs, funding submissions, Council reports and project documentation.
- Representing the City at meetings, Planning Panels and stakeholder forums.
- Managing consultant contracts, timelines and project budgets.
- Supporting and mentoring team members.
- Engaging with the community and stakeholders to support transparent planning processes.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have strong strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex planning information into clear, practical outcomes. You will be confident managing multiple projects, providing expert advice, and working collaboratively with teams, stakeholders and the community to achieve sustainable planning outcomes.
Essential Experience:
- Tertiary qualification in Town Planning or a related field.
- Knowledge of the planning scheme amendment process and relevant legislation.
- Experience preparing strategic plans, policies, guidelines and managing planning projects.
- Proven ability to lead, supervise or mentor staff.
- Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, prioritisation and meeting deadlines.
- Experience conducting research, analysing data and synthesising results into actionable plans.
- Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
