Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruits, reviews, and processes participant(s) applications.
Advises students on establishing academic and career goals; identifies the educational and career options appropriate for each student; and assists with analyzing each option, including possible outcomes and their implications.
Establishes an action plan for students to explore alternative careers and related majors. Identifies options for students to satisfy degree requirements; evaluates and makes recommendations for student's program of study; assists students in successfully completing degree/program requirements.
Advises students about the content and structure of postsecondary programs, including graduation and transfer requirements for a particular program of study.
Assists students with Course Planning, Registration, FAFSA, SAP, and verification process; refers students to available on-campus resources to meet individual needs, including career and personal counseling if needed.
Utilizing technology, monitors students' academic progress toward degree and certificate completion; identifies current and potential educational needs; and refers students to appropriate campus resources for additional assistance (if needed).
Maintains student files and records; documents all pertinent student information and updates in BLUMAN- Compansol regarding changes to student status.
Submits data relevant to APR (Annual Performance Report) and grant writing cycle (every five years).
Utilizing available technology, maintains daily, weekly, and semester records/logs concerning students to compile appropriate narrative statistical enrollment, retention, and matriculation reports.
Conducts workshops relevant to program goals and participant needs
Participates in professional activities including NACADA (National Academic Advising Association), SWASAP (Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs), LASAP (Louisiana Association of Student Assistance Programs), and other professional organizations which encourage continuous professional growth and development as an Advisor.
Participates in individual and professional team development and remains current with the technology used to provide advising services.
Maintains confidentiality of information exposed to in business regarding students and others who may obtain advising services.
Hires and trains work-study students.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree or higher in General Studies or a related field is required
Required Experience: Minimum of three years experience working with the targeted population (first generation and low-income or disadvantaged student population). Experience in conducting presentations is required. Must possess exceptional written and verbal skills.

Preferred Education: Master's Degree in counseling or a related field is preferred
Preferred Experience: Preference given to those applicants who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project's target population.
