Duties and Responsibilities: • Understands and adheres to all applicable Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) policies.
• Understands and adheres to policies and procedures contained in the SOWELA Technical Community College (STCC) Faculty Handbook.
• Understands and adheres to all laws pertaining to disclosure of student records; Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
• Understands and adheres to the professional scope, standards, codes, rules, and regulations of Professional Governing Bodies:
o American Nurses Association
o Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN)
o Nurses Code of Ethics
o Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)

• Teaching and Direct Instructional Activities
o Course materials are prepared using evidence-based resources (textbooks, instructional aids, online resources, and materials) and the most recent NCLEX test plan published by NCSBN.
o Maintain current with NCLEX changes.
o Utilizes the Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas, for posting teaching material, assignments, and grades. It is organized and available to students.
o Utilizes established testing platform to administer exams.
o Course time organized to be accomplished in the allotted time.
o Instruction provided to individual students and groups appropriate to the needs and requirements of activities being performed.
o Attends class on time and if unable to attend; notifies the Program Coordinator/Dean and students and ensures alternate method of course delivery is available for students if applicable.
o Able to deliver course content in a clear, concise manner that enhances student learning; communicates effectively.
o Facilitates online activities and communication.
o Responsible for directing, evaluating, and reporting student progress toward course outcomes.
o Administer and grade exams and assignments.
o Reviews and updates course materials and/or books annually or as needed and makes recommendations to Program Coordinator.
o Accepts and completes assigned tasks/duties related to the requirements to maintain program accreditation.
o Contributes to academic and clinical content for curriculum planning and development of student experience.
o Follow curriculum guidelines as approved by LSBN and ACEN.
o Demonstrates varied methods of course content delivery and use of instructional aids.
o Provides adequate resources that enable students to successfully complete assignments.
o Content expert in subject matter
o Promotes discussion among students as well as learning and individual initiative.
o Provides constructive feedback in a timely manner on tests and assignments.
o Provides fair consistent grading of student course work.
o Positively motivates students.
o Offer constructive feedback that facilitates growth.
o Oversees students’ clinical practice.
 Ensures clinical site will allow students to gain clinical experience for course content and enhance clinical judgment.
 Orients self and students and adheres to clinical facility policies and procedures.
 Evaluates student performance in the clinical setting according to the program guidelines.
 Participates in pre and post conference experiences.

• Service to Students, Department, Division or College
o Maintains office hours as required by the college.
o Submits reports and performs required record-keeping functions on or before determined deadlines. (course reports, Nuventive-course SLO entry)
o Participates in School of Nursing and Allied Health (SoNAH) monthly meetings and standing committees as assigned. May include serving as committee chair.
o Accepts SoNAH service assignments such as recruiting events.
o Attends/participates in all pinning and graduation activities.
o Professionally represents the institution in college-related outreach activities.
o May serve on advisory boards/committees.
o May apply academic, clinical, or professional expertise in the local, state or national community.
o May sponsor student activities or groups.
o Participates in college workshops/seminars.
o Assists students with advising and counseling activities related to academic, career and job placement areas.
o Performs other related duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator or Dean
o Assists with special projects, tours or initiatives as needed.
o Participates in evaluating Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs). May assist with data collection or other assigned duties.
o Work with Program Coordinator/Dean to ensure LSBN and ACEN guidelines are met for continued program accreditation.
o Assist with student program application process.

• Professional Development Activities
o Attends conferences, seminars and workshops that enhance expertise in areas of teaching and/or clinical responsibilities to maintain currency in profession.
o Participates in professional organizations.
o Acts as a role model for nursing students
o Develops and maintains professional and collegial relationships.
o Communicates on professional matters with media, government agencies and other professional bodies when asked.
o Maintains current unencumbered RN or APRN license and completes continuing education or work hour requirements per LSBN.

o Perform outlined duties as Program Coordinator (if applicable)

Required Education: 

• Master’s degree in Nursing or higher.

Required Experience: 

• Nursing experience of two years in the concentration hired to teach (Medical-Surgical, Maternal Child, Pediatrics, Mental Health)
• Must meet faculty qualifications through LSBN and clinical agencies.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to use a computer for composing, storing, and retrieving information.
• Use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with patient care, students, other employees and the public. This is normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, and handle or feel objects and controls.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical computations needed to grade and complete assignments.
• Plan, organize, and prioritize job duties to meet deadlines.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, and parties outside of the college.
• Ability to work independently, problem-solve and make decisions effectively.
• Models’ professional standards, including customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, attendance, and related.

Required Licenses or Certifications: 

• Must maintain a current, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in Louisiana or one of the Compact Member States.

Preferred Experience: 

• Maternal Child, Pediatric, Mental Health or Medical-Surgical experience
