POSITION OVERVIEW
JOB SUMMARY:
The Department of Social Work at the University of West Florida (UWF), in Pensacola, Florida, seeks a dynamic professional to join its colleague of faculty for a 9-month Assistant Professor (tenure-earning) position (128250) starting in August 8, 2026. The department offers both a Masters in Social Work (MSW) that focuses on clinical practice in behavioral and health care settings and a generalist Bachelors in Social Work (BSW) degree, and it is expected that the chosen candidate will be able to teach across the BSW and MSW curricula with a primary emphasis in graduate courses. The salary for this in-person position will be commensurate with experience.
Primary responsibilities include the following:
1. Teaching courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, with a teaching load of three three-hour courses each during the fall and spring semesters.
2. Engaging in scholarly activities leading to publishing impactful research.
3. Participation in doctoral dissertation committees at UWF.
4. Active engagement in curriculum development and department activities.
5. The faculty member is expected to work with municipal and regional service organizations.
6. Provide meaningful service to the department, college, university, and the profession.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ph.D. in Social Work, or a Masters in Social Work and a doctoral degree in a closely related field, from an accredited institution, at the time of appointment.
• Strong commitment to teaching high-quality face-to-face and online teaching, academic research, and professional service.
• Ability to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels
• This is an in-person position, and campus presence is required as the applicant will be participating in scheduled meetings, events, and maintaining office hours.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated experience in delivering engaging, high-quality teaching.
• Experience teaching graduate level foundation and advanced clinical courses.
• Commitment to purposeful mentoring of BSW and MSW students.
• Ability to guide and mentor MSW scholarly research activities.
• Commitment to grantsmanship.
The position requires a criminal background check and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or license-eligibility in the State of Florida or neighboring states.
