Job Summary: The Department of Movement Sciences and Health within the Ushu Kundu, MD, College of Health at the University of West Florida, in collaboration with the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC), is accepting applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level and an accompanying 25% FTE Research Scientist appointment at IHMC. The successful candidate will teach graduate coursework and/or other courses assigned by the department chair. The candidate will engage in scholarly activity, and university and community service.

In conjunction with the College’s facilities and resources, the joint appointment comes with full access to the facilities, resources, and environment at IHMC, including the new, state-of-the-field IHMC Healthspan, Resilience, and Performance Research Complex—a 40,000-square-foot complex containing an interdisciplinary blend of clinical/applied and molecular/cellular research capabilities and $12.4M of new, leading-edge equipment.

We seek candidates with expertise in muscle physiology and/or cardiovascular research capable of conducting independent translational research from molecular and cellular physiology to in vivo phenotyping, emphasizing mechanistic human clinical trials. Candidates are expected to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations, establish an extramurally supported, high-impact research program, provide research mentorship for graduate and undergraduate students, and teach a limited number of graduate or undergraduate courses. Minimum Qualifications: Holds the highest degree appropriate to the field or possesses equivalent qualifications based on professional experience, and be otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties. The appointee engages in teaching, scholarship and creative projects, and/or service and other related activities.
Position Qualifications: This position requires a doctorate in exercise science, physiology, human performance, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution and a demonstrated ability to lead relevant, independent research.
Preferred Qualifications Strong record of research productivity and a clear plan to secure external funding. Postdoctoral research experience in muscle physiology, cardiovascular physiology, metabolism, or a related area. Evidence of ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and engage in community partnerships for research and service. Previous teaching or mentoring experience at the university level.
