Job Summary: | Develop software to advance research on simulations, big data analytics, and cyber-infrastructure development for public health policy applications, supported by multiple grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. This position relates to software development for the VIPRA project (https://uwf.edu/vipra) and requires interdisciplinary collaborations with researchers at several universities. The Research Software Engineer would also be expected to work with graduate and undergraduate students. In accordance with UWF Human Resources Policy HR-20.02-09/15, Recruitment, Selection, and Appointment, a time-limited appointment is a position funded by contract and grant, auxiliary, or local fund, for a project for a specific period. A time-limited position shall have the same rights as a regular position except that the position is not entitled to notice of separation at the expiration of the appointment and shall not have layoff and recall rights. |

Minimum Qualifications: | Masters degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelors degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience. |
Position Qualifications: | Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or related fields from an accredited institution and two years of appropriate experience. The position requires proficiency in developing open-source scientific software in C++ and Python in a Linux environment, database design, software packaging and distribution, industry-standard version control, and collaboration practices using GitHub or GitLab. Applicants must have strong interpersonal communication, presentation, written and verbal communication skills and be familiar with code documentation. Proficiency in high-performance computing using MPI and CUDA, and experience with machine learning, big data analytics, and mathematical modeling is a plus. |
Preferred Qualifications | The ideal candidates will have 3+ years of software development experience in a research setting, demonstrated success in deploying production software including containerization, proficiency in high-performance computing using MPI and CUDA, and experience with machine learning, big data analytics, and mathematical modeling. |
