About the role
In this role, you will provide strategic leadership and expert support to a team delivering sport and recreation planning across Greater Geelong. Responsible for enhancing facilities through effective strategies and policies, it promotes community participation in physical activity. The position also ensures the successful delivery of high-profile projects while managing key stakeholder relationships.

Classification: Band 8 $118,486 - $131,749 pa plus super
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide a high level of strategic leadership to the Sport & Recreation Planning team to ensure the development of plans, policies, standards, procedures and strategic documents that will guide the delivery of high-quality contemporary sport and recreation outcomes for the community
- Lead with self-awareness, resilience, and valuing diversity by role modelling, coaching and supporting team members to ensure they are engaged, committed and results oriented.
- Ensure systems and processes are in place that provide data and insights on any provision or service gaps to inform future sport and recreation development priorities, and infrastructure delivery.
- Monitor and advise on the implications arising from government policy and funding opportunities relating to sport and recreation planning.
- Provide subject matter expertise and advice to leaders and other relevant stakeholders
About you
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced leader with strong people management skills and a passion for community development. The ideal candidate excels in policy development, strategic planning, and project management within sport and recreation. Strong stakeholder collaboration, financial management, and problem-solving abilities are essential, along with integrity, innovation, and a drive for positive change.
Essential Experience:
- Tertiary qualification in relevant specialist field(s) and or significant professional experience in a comparable organisation.
- Demonstrable experience and an excellent reputation in the leadership and management of people within a comparable organisation.
- Experience in developing policies and strategies to support the effective planning and delivery of sport and recreation.
- Ability to effectively manage complex projects from consultation, concept development, and design phases through to full implementation.
- Well-developed problem solving and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build cooperation and partnerships.
