The Department of Anthropology at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2024 to teach Anthropology 301 Culture and Medical Healers. This course offers a cross-cultural exploration of healers and healing approaches. Examines differences and similarities in the ways that people approach illness and healing by relying heavily on an abundance of examples from various cultures, including that of the United States. Examines illness causation and classification theories, diagnostic practices, therapeutic procedures, preventive care, the assumptions that underlie these concepts and practices, and their relationship to the social, cultural, and technological environments in which they are constructed. Focuses on the role of the healer in the context of culture and examines physicians, shamans, witch doctors, curandero/as, midwives, wise men and women, and other healers. Explores the use of music, botanicals, healing aids, and pharmaceuticals in the healing process. Informed self-reflection and critical analysis of one's own world view assumptions and medical belief system are fundamental objectives of the course.
EDRL 627 - Designing, Developing, and Evaluating Effective Literacy Programs (Spring 2025) San Marcos

Athletics - Assistant Women's Basketball Coach San Marcos
The coaching assistant, who will have the working title of Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach, will assist the head coach with the day-to-day operations of our successful NCAA Division II women’s basketball program.  This includes, but is not limited to, recruiting, preparation for practice and competition scheduling, team travel organization, assisting the head coach with the athletic scholarships process, compliance with all NCAA rules, and student-athlete welfare.  The assistant coach will work with the academic support services staff in fostering academic success for all student-athletes including graduation rates and retention of student-athletes.
