Reporting to the Regional Operations Leader, this role is responsible for coordinating train crew and yard operations to ensure productive and cost-effective deployment of resources to ensure a high level of customer service is established and maintained.

You will:

You’ll oversee daily rollingstock movements, manage day-of-operations changes, and provide clear analysis and reporting to support strategic, financial and operational objectives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Allocate and deploy crew, yard and production resources to deliver the yard plan and daily schedule.
  • Improve systems, processes and controls to reduce above-rail impacts and lift supply chain performance.
  • Capture and analyse operational data, identify trends, and provide customer and business insights.
  • Prepare and coordinate reporting, forecasting and planning to support decision-making.
  • Provide expert advice to drive commercial, financial and operational improvements.
  • Lead and develop the team through clear goals, coaching, continuous improvement and safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, company policies and standards, and manage light vehicle fleet servicing/maintenance.

About you: 

  • Strong planning and prioritisation skills; able to manage competing operational demands.
  • Experience producing clear reports and presenting insights to varied audiences.
  • Confident stakeholder engagement, negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Able to distil complex issues into practical recommendations.
  • Collaborative communicator with well-developed written and verbal skills.

Specific skills:

  • Shunt qualified (or ability to obtain).
  • Available to work a 24/7 shift roster.
  • Line leadership experience in logistics/heavy industry (preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability that delivers commercial value.
  • Ability to lead teams in a live day-of-operations environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear, succinct information.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • RICS experience (preferred).
  • Certificate IV/Diploma in Frontline Management (or equivalent) (preferred).
