Job Description:
Under general supervision of appropriate supervisor, manager, or director; performs skilled building
automation system installation and calibration on various systems and components; includes the installation,
operation, corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance of such systems. May include but is not limited
to; electrical/electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, HVAC/R (heating, ventilation, air conditioning and
refrigeration), fire, smoke and security building automation systems and components.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/experience/licensing:
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent GED
• Associate’s degree or technical school certification in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning or similar field preferred and three (3) years field experience working as a Building Automation Technician for a Building Automation Company, or four (4) years documented experience working as a Building Automation Technician for “end user” (customer).
• Must have working knowledge of building automation system programming language and logic.
• Working knowledge of building automation control and calibration, installation and repair practices associated with but not limited to HVAC/R, electrical/electronic, pneumatic/hydraulic, building automation systems and components. Knowledge of electrical wiring systems, knowledge of HVAC/R systems. Ability to apply principles to solve a variety of everyday practical problems.
• Ability to use math; read and write common vocabulary; read blueprints; understand manuals and electric wiring schematics and verbal instructions (technical in nature). Understanding of building layout, terminology, and university policy and procedures to be obtained post hire. Have the ability to design and implement control strategies.
• Must have knowledge and skill in leadership, regulations, codes, and hand and power tool operation.
• Ability to work independently on most jobs, perform measurements, and have layout skills.
• Must possess verbal and written communication skills necessary to provide excellent customer service to staff, faculty, students, patients, family members, and management. Verbal skills to communicate with other trades and work control.
• Must have valid driver’s license and insurable under university driving policy.
• Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position. Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
