Job Description:
Supervise an assigned group of children (between the ages of eighteen months to ten years of age) each day to ensure their physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs are met.
Education:
Endorses a developmentally appropriate play based philosophy for learning. Is aware of and attempts to meet individual needs and respects individual differences. Develops lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate, complete and posted prior to the week they will be implemented. Follows lesson plans that are posted, and prepares material for activities ahead of time. Plays/facilitates activities with children, and minimizes socialization with other staff. Treats children of all races, religions, family backgrounds and cultures equally with respect and consideration.
Classroom Environment:
Provides a variety of materials in all learning centers for hands on use. Classroom is organized and well supplied. Assumes responsibility for the care of shared space within the building, and involves children in sharing responsibility for care of the room and toys. Room arrangement is changed at least twice a year, and bulletin boards are changed at least six times a year. Toys are rotated on a monthly basis in the learning centers for variety. Tables and chairs are wiped, and floor is swept after every snack or meal. Trash is emptied after meals or at appropriate times. Chairs are stacked at the end of the day and toys are kept free from grime and finger prints.
Classroom Management:
Establishes a balance between free choice and facilitated activities. Encourages self control and self care skills in the classroom. Uses positive approach to help children behave appropriately. Deals with discipline problems effectively, and in accordance with center policy. Shows control in difficult situations. Encourages pro-social behaviors in children such as cooperating, helping, taking turns, talking to solve problems. Overall sound of the group is pleasant most of the time. Staff are aware of the activities of the entire group even when dealing with a smaller group. Staff move through the learning centers facilitating learning in all areas. Must be able to sit comfortably on the floor while talking with young children.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/experience/licensing:
• Must be 18 years of age and possess a H.S. diploma or GED equivalent
• Must have a valid Infant and Child First Aid card or obtain within 3 months of employment.
• Must have a valid Common Childhood Communicable Disease card or obtain within 3 months of employment
• Must have a valid Recognition and Prevention of Child Abuse card or obtain within 3 months of employment.
• Shall not have any convictions of child abuse or crimes involving moral turpitude.
• Must have a fingerprint check by the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCII)
• An Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, or 60 semester hours of Early Childhood Education at the college level, or teaching experience working with young children in a child care setting required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
