This is an on-site position.
The System Administrator is responsible for provisioning, configuration, maintenance, security, and support of Louisiana Community and Technical Colleges (LCTC) System technology infrastructure, including servers, operating systems, enterprise applications, endpoint devices, and related systems. This role ensures the reliability, performance, availability, and security of technology services that support teaching, learning, and administrative operations.
Working in a collaborative team environment, the System Administrator partners with IT staff and other LCTC System stakeholders to deliver effective technology solutions, support continuous improvement initiatives, and maintain a secure, resilient computing environment. Responsibilities include system monitoring, patch management, troubleshooting, technical research, and the implementation of best practices that enhance operational efficiency and cybersecurity.
The System Administrator also provides desktop and system-related support, delivering exceptional customer service and clear communication. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Systems Administration
- *Engineering of System Administrator-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
- *Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- *Install and configure new, and upgrade existing, systems as business needs dictate.

*Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure/add new services as necessary.

*Upgrade and configure system software that supports IT infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications for project or operational needs.
- *Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
- *Contribute to and maintain system standards.

*Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
Operations

*Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- *Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.

*Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
- *Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
- *Create, change, and delete user accounts by request.
- *Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.

*Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
System Maintenance and Optimization
- *Maintain system configurations, documentation, and operational procedures.
- *Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity to ensure reliable operations.
- *Perform system maintenance, patching, upgrades, and performance optimization.
- *Maintain infrastructure security through vulnerability monitoring and timely remediation.
- *Identify and implement process improvements to enhance system reliability, efficiency, and scalability.
Desktop and System-Related Support
Project Resource

*Participate in IT infrastructure and technology projects, providing systems administration expertise, technical research, and implementation support.

*Collaborate with project stakeholders to define technical requirements, identify action items, establish milestones, and ensure alignment with project timelines.

*Complete assigned project tasks, track progress, and provide regular status updates, including dependencies, and next steps.

*Identify, communicate, and mitigate project risks that may impact system availability, performance, security, or operations.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or Associate’s degree plus two (2) years of relevant IT experience; or four (4) years of equivalent systems administration or infrastructure support experience.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Experience administering Windows-based server environments (e.g., Active Directory, Microsoft 365), and related infrastructure technologies.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong customer service orientation with the ability to effectively support users at all levels of the organization.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to nontechnical audiences.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Experience with scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell) to improve operational efficiency and system management.

Experience supporting infrastructure projects, including system upgrades, migrations, deployments, and disaster recovery initiatives.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATION:

Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Microsoft technologies (MCSE), CompTIA, VMware, Azure preferred.
