Duties and Responsibilities: The Practical Nursing (PN) Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction, supporting student success, participating in program assessment and accreditation activities, and contributing to the overall mission of Louisiana Delta Community College.
Teaching and Student Learning
• Teach an assigned instructional load of up to 15 credit hours per semester in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings.
• Plan, develop, and deliver engaging, evidence-based instruction that meets course objectives and supports diverse learning styles.
• Develop and revise course materials, syllabi, and instructional resources in accordance with Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners (LSPN), accreditation, and College requirements.
• Evaluate student learning through a variety of assessment methods and maintain accurate academic records.
• Maintain regular office hours and provide timely communication and academic support to students.
• Assist with student advising, placement, progression, and retention initiatives.
• Support and mentor adjunct/associate faculty as assigned.
• Utilize assessment data and student learning outcomes to improve instruction and curriculum.
• Teach courses during day, evening, weekend, or alternative schedules as needed.
Curriculum Development and Program Assessment
• Participate in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of the Practical Nursing curriculum.
• Collaborate with faculty to ensure consistency and continuity across courses.
• Develop and assess student learning outcomes and implement continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Participate in program evaluation, accreditation activities, and regulatory reporting.
Professional Development
• Maintain current knowledge and clinical expertise through continuing education and professional development.
• Remain current with best practices in nursing education, instructional technology, and healthcare.
• Participate in ongoing self-evaluation and implement improvements to teaching effectiveness.
• Maintain all professional licensure, certifications, and credentials required for the position.
College and Community Service
• Participate in faculty meetings, college committees, task forces, and departmental activities.
• Assist with student recruitment, orientation, registration, advising, retention, and graduation activities.
• Participate in faculty selection and mentoring activities as assigned.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with clinical agencies, healthcare partners, and community organizations.
• Support program and institutional accreditation efforts.
• Assist with departmental planning, budgeting, and achievement of strategic goals.
• Represent the College through community engagement and professional activities that promote the mission and values of Louisiana Delta Community College.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education: A practical nurse instructor must be a licensed registered nurse with three years of nursing experience. At least one of these three years must have been as a medical-surgical hospital staff nurse providing direct patient care. An applicant for nurse instructor must have practiced as a nurse for a minimum of six full-time months during the three years immediately preceding application. A Louisiana license or Compact license is required.
