Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Provide instruction in automotive systems, including engine repair and performance, electrical and electronic systems, brakes, steering and suspension, HVAC system, and transmission.
• Deliver hands-on training using current tools, equipment, and diagnostic technology.
• Maintain lab/shop safety, tools, and equipment.
• Develop, review, and update curriculum to reflect industry advancements and workforce needs.
• Prepare course materials, lesson plans, and assessments in accordance with institutional guidelines.
• Evaluate student performance through exams, practical assessments, and competencies and provide timely feedback.
• Advise and mentor students on academic progress, technical skills, and career pathways.
• Maintain accurate records, including attendance, grades, and student progress reports and submit final grades to the registrar’s office each semester according to established deadlines.
• Integrate safety, professionalism, and industry best practices into all instruction.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory/shop environment in compliance with safety regulations.
• Participate in departmental meetings, accreditation activities, and professional development.
• Collaborate with faculty and industry partners to support program growth and student placement.
• Stay current with advancements in automotive technology (e.g., hybrid and electric vehicles)
• Assist with program promotion, student recruitment, and outreach activities.
• Serve on college, divisional, and program committees as assigned.
• Participate in departmental meetings, accreditation processes, and professional development.
• Respond in a timely fashion to information requests from college, division, and program administrators.
• Develop and maintain professional relations with the industry through industry visits and advisory committee meetings.
• Participate in curriculum development and program accreditation processes
• Follow college policies, safety regulations, and instructional best practices.
• Assume other duties as requested by the supervisor and the college.

Qualifications Required: 

     • A Baccalaureate degree in the discipline and at least two (2) years of directly related occupational experience, OR
     • An associate degree in the discipline and three (3) years of occupational experience and skill in the teaching discipline with verifiable academic credentials, qualifications, or competencies appropriate for teaching the course content*, OR
     • A relevant diploma or certificate in the discipline and four (4) years of occupational experience and skill in the teaching discipline with verifiable academic credentials, qualifications, or competencies appropriate for teaching the course content *, OR
     • At least five (5) years of occupational experience and skill in the teaching discipline with verifiable qualifications or competencies appropriate for teaching the course content*.

*Academic coursework, work experience, licenses, certifications, credentials, competencies, or other experiences appropriate for teaching the course content must be documented and justified.
**Faculty must additionally demonstrate steady progress to attain an associate degree to be considered for continued employment. Steady progress is defined as the successful completion of at least one college course per semester, including the summer, or nine credits per academic year.
     • Current ASE Master Technician Certification or the ability to certify within 12 months of employment.

     • Instructors hired for manufacturer-specific programs (e.g., Honda PACT or GM ASEP) are required to complete all required manufacturer training.

Preferred Experience: 

• Teaching experience in post-secondary education is preferred.
• Current ASE Master Technician Certification.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Experience with, or willingness to learn, Learning Management Systems (LMS).
