The Counselor will report directly to the Director of Enrollment Management. The incumbent will be responsible for providing psychological and support services for students at BRCC experiencing mental health and psychosocial challenges. The Counselor will provide individual counseling, crisis intervention, outreach, and consultation to the BRCC community.
The incumbent will also be responsible for providing comprehensive support and guidance to students with disabilities, ensuring equal access to educational opportunities, and fostering an inclusive campus environment. This role involves assessing student needs, developing individualized accommodations, and promoting awareness of accessibility resources.
Key Responsibilities
55% - Mental Health Counseling Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students dealing with a range of mental health issues, including social/personal and psychological concerns.
- Conduct assessments to identify students' mental health needs and develop personalized treatment plans.
- Respond to mental health crises by assessing risks and providing immediate support to students in distress.
- Provide consultative services to college community e.g. faculty/staff, clubs, and organizations.
- Collaborate with emergency services and other professionals as necessary to ensure student safety.
- Develop and implement educational programs, workshops, and seminars on various counseling services and special interest topics to promote mental health awareness, coping strategies, and wellness.
- Facilitate outreach initiatives to promote counseling services and reduce stigma around mental health issues.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Work closely with faculty, staff, and external mental health resources to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams to address student needs holistically.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to mental health services on campus.
- Stay informed about best practices and current research in mental health counseling.
- Advocate for students’ mental health needs within the college community.
- Provide referrals to external mental health services and resources when appropriate.
40% - Accessibility Services Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct intake assessments to identify student needs and eligibility for services.
- Develop and implement individualized accommodation plans tailored to each student’s requirements.
- Provide ongoing accessibility support to students, addressing academic, personal, and emotional challenges.
- Work closely with faculty, staff, and administration to ensure the effective implementation of accommodations.
- Collaborate with disability service providers and community organizations to enhance resources and support for students.
- Advocate for students’ rights to access and participate in all aspects of college life.
- Develop and deliver workshops and training sessions on accessibility, inclusion, and disability awareness for faculty, staff, and students.
- Contribute to the development and revision of college policies and procedures related to accessibility services.
- Stay informed about federal and state regulations regarding accessibility in education.
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions, accommodation requests, and services provided.
- Prepare reports and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of accessibility services and identify areas for improvement.
- Foster a welcoming environment for students with disabilities through outreach activities.
- Participate in college committees and initiatives focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
- A minimum of one year of supervised practicum/internship experience including a minimum of three (3) years of experience in an appropriate clinical setting, e.g. counseling center or mental health agency.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of disability rights laws and best practices in accessibility.
