Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Maintain performance standards and pursue goals, objectives, and activities that promote
the mission and values of the College.

• Maintain current knowledge of program rules and regulations, and communicate changes
to faculty and staff.

• Provide leadership for the clinical component of the program. Responsible for the recruitment, selection,
evaluation, and development of clinical site, instructors and preceptors with the program director. Routinely visit all clinical affiliates to provide students with formative and summative reports of their clinical performance and progress and to ensure that the quality and quantity of the students’ clinical experiences are appropriate and equitable. Monitor the clinical faculty in their capacity to perform as effective clinical teachers. Monitor institutional policies, procedures, and practices with respect to clinical education. Maintain documentation of all clinical activities and responsibilities.

• Supervise and assist students in learning experiences in clinical sites. This involves the assigning, guiding, and
evaluating of students in selected learning experiences in the various settings as identified by established performance objectives.

• Teach assigned courses. Act as facilitator of learning and a manager of information for the students. Participate in
efforts to consistently improve the level of student success. Facilitate critical thinking in preparation for and throughout clinical experiences. Flexibility with teaching schedule in relation to revisions/changes/unusual circumstances within the program curriculum.

• Be adaptable to schedule/load adjustments based upon enrollment and accountable for a forty hour workweek,
including instructional responsibilities, planning, meetings, etc.

• Participate in committee work either as working members or as chairs. From time to time, faculty members will be
asked to participate on administrative committees, such as search committees, ad hoc committees, etc.

• Provide students with formative and summative reports of their academic progress and the opportunity for private
consultation, conferences, and academic advising.

• Work in conjunction with the program director on curriculum development and/or revision. Clinical education is to
be formally designed and coordinated with the didactic curriculum. Cooperate with the program director in program reviews, program policies and new program options.

• Participate in the development and refinement of CPCS course materials including course syllabi and lab modules
that reflect current practice.

• Participate in the recruitment, selection, admission, advising, readmission, transfer, progression, retention efforts,
and withdrawal of students within the program. Communicate with the Program Director regularly with concerns and general information concerning progress of the program curriculum and students.

• Participate in organizing, administering, reviewing, developing, and assuring program effectiveness through ongoing
resource and program assessment system. Participate in the maintenance of program accreditation.

• Participate in organizing, coordinating and revising student lab sessions. Maintain laboratory equipment and
supplies. Participate in adding new technology to the lab setting and implementing related technology in lecture and lab.

• Cooperate with others in meeting the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and abilities in the classroom,
clinical, and college environment.

• Assist with review and selection of new textbooks, laboratory equipment, supplies and other instructional materials
used in the teaching-learning process.

• Maintain current professional credentials, state license, continuing professional development requirements, and
expertise in respiratory therapy. Maintain ongoing professional development in the area of teaching and in the teaching-learning process.

• Maintain student files and program records according to accreditation, and college requirements.

• Recommend, develop and conduct professional growth activities and programs for full time, adjunct and clinical
faculty as well as assisting with community programs.

• Participate in recruiting, orienting, and mentoring of adjunct and full time faculty in support of the program.
Communicate and collaborate with full time, adjunct and clinical faculty on a regular basis during each semester to enhance the program and enrich the students.

• Participate in recruiting, orienting, mentoring and motivating as an advisor to the Student
Respiratory Care Association (SRCA).

• Represent the college in manner, appearance, and behavior that promote a positive
image of the college within the community.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

 

Required Experience: A minimum of four years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two years in clinical respiratory care. A minimum of two years' experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/ preceptor for students of such programs. Must complete the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidates must have good instructional techniques; computer knowledge; student-centered attitude; and must be well organized.

 

Required Licenses or Certifications: Candidate must possess a valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and current state license.

 

Preferred Education: Master’s degree preferred.
