Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintain performance standards and pursue goals, objectives, and activities that promote the mission, vision and value statement of the College.
• Run the library circulation desk. Services include checking materials in and out, assisting patrons with locating library materials, answering the phone, troubleshooting technology issues, and monitoring chat help.
• Assist with coordinating and proctoring various tests while serving as a backup testing proctor.
• Assist students needing special accommodations, including reading assistance, scribing support, or facilitating a customized testing environment.
• Assist with library programming.
• Maintain archival scrapbooks.
• Assist library staff to maintain serials collection.
• Assist with training student workers.
• General cleaning and organizing.
• Assist Director of Library Services and Academic Support with collection development needs.
• Recommends updates to policies and procedures, as necessary.
• Support academic support areas including tutoring, testing, and eLearning with administrative duties.
• Foster, demonstrate, and actively participate in a culture of mutual respect for students, guests, and co-workers from all backgrounds, perspectives and abilities. Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and supervisors and utilize appropriate channels of communication within the college community concerning procedures and/or inquiries.
• Attend and participate in scheduled activities, which include graduation, open house/recruiting events as assigned, convocation, and required meetings. Share ideas and information, and work toward common department and College goals.
• Serve on college committees as a member or as chair. Serve on search committees.
• Participate in professional development activities that enhance effectiveness (convocation, LCTCS conference, etc.).
• Represent the college in a manner that promotes a professional and positive image.
• Adhere to College and LCTCS policies.
• Embrace college culture.
• Complete all required trainings prior to deadlines (Fletcher, LCTCS, etc.).
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Special Working Conditions: Work is performed mainly while sitting at a desk or computer terminal or standing at a counter for extended periods. Physical exertion may be required to lift office supplies and library materials from overhead and from the floor. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation are essential to permit the employee to read, sort and shelve library materials and maintain patron and cataloging records. Often, the employee must move, shelve, and retrieve library materials from high and low settings.
Required Education: Associate’s degree and five years experience. Bachelor’s degree may substitute for the Associate’s degree and five years experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Customer service experience and/or experience running an office. Exceptional communication skills, which include the ability to communicate and work with people effectively, courteously, skillfully, and accurately. Ability to interpret documents and data. Ability to prioritize and summarize requests. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Problem solving abilities and experience. Able to work independently.
Preferred Experience: Library experience. Experience in a college setting.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Fluency in another language (written and verbal) is highly desirable.
