Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide academic assistance to students individually or in small groups to enhance student learning without compromising the quality of the student learning experience.
Review concepts and learning objectives for physics courses specific to the subject area to assist students with course content.
Assist students in understanding networking and cybersecurity concepts, theories, and lab activities.
Support learners with configuring network devices, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and applying security measures.
Help students prepare for classes, labs, and exams in subjects such as:
-Network Fundamentals (LAN/WAN, TCP/IP)
-Routing and Switching
-Network Security Principles
-Cybersecurity Fundamentals
-Ethical Hacking and Penetration Testing Basics
-Firewalls and Intrusion Detection Systems
Reinforce classroom instruction by breaking down complex topics into practical examples.
Guide students in using tools such as Cisco Packet Tracer, Wireshark, virtualization platforms (VMware, VirtualBox), and security scanning utilities.
Assist with setting up and managing virtual labs for simulated network and security exercises.
Promote adherence to industry standards (e.g., NIST, ISO, CIS Controls).
Emphasize safe, ethical, and legal use of technology in all exercises.
Document tutoring sessions, noting topics covered and student skill development.
Communicate progress or concerns to faculty and academic support staff when appropriate.
Encourage students to troubleshoot systematically, research solutions, and apply problem-solving strategies.
Guide students toward professional certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Security+, Cisco CCNA, CEH) where applicable.
Keep up to date with current networking and cybersecurity trends, tools, and threats.
Adhere to college policies and maintain confidentiality of student information.
Attend tutor training and participate in departmental meetings as required.
Provide basic technical support to students using the computers in the lab.
Communicate services to students and staff.
Assist in carrying out the resource lab’s rules and guidelines.
Maintain learning environment in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
Perform other duties related to the School of Stem as assigned.
Required Education: Associate’s Degree in Computer Networking or Cybersecurity, or higher with a minimum of 15 Hours of College-Level-Computer courses in Networking and Cybersecurity.
Required Experience: Minimum of one year of general office experience or tutoring/teaching in a college setting.
Preferred Experience: Minimum of one year of tutoring/teaching Networking and Cybersecurity courses in a college setting.
