Duties and Responsibilities: • Maintains written instructional standards.
• Maintains familiarity and adherence to school policies and procedures.
• Teach assigned courses in-person as scheduled.
• Instruct students on the safe and proper use of horticultural tools and equipment.
• Participates in the assessment and development of student learning outcomes.
• Establishes, maintains, and submits accurate student and instructional records in a timely manner.
• Maintain and recommend needed equipment and supplies.
• Maintain professional teacher-to-student interactions that promote a positive learning environment for all students.
• Advise students in academic and vocational curricula and career planning.
• Work in a professional capacity within the secure environment of a Federal Prison Facility.
• Work with employees of other agencies such as the Bureau of Prisons.
• Submit midterm and final grades by the published deadlines.
Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Required Experience: Minimum of five years of experience in horticulture or a related field.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Ability to work with a diverse, non-traditional, and traditionally underserved population.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Working knowledge of a student information system and/or knowledge of microcomputer/software applications.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and written, at all levels.
• Proven ability to present a positive image for the college, maintain professional demeanor, provide effective customer service, and make good decisions.
• Skilled at planning, organizing, and prioritizing job duties to meet deadlines.
• Maintaining interpersonal professional working relationships at all levels–students, peers, and Executives.
• Must possess the physical capability and technical aptitude necessary to safely and effectively operate equipment and tools commonly used in the field of Horticulture.
• Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment and networked personal computers.
• Proficiency in or ability to become proficient in a variety of software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Preferred Education: Associate degree in a related field.
Preferred Experience: Ten years of experience in horticulture or a closely related field, including a minimum of three years in a supervisory or management role. Teaching experience is preferred
