Duties and Responsibilities:
• Directs and coordinates all aspects of the program, following any programmatic and/or regional accrediting standards and College/System policies.
• Assures program compliance with any accrediting or licensing bodies.
• Provides leadership and vision to the program for which they direct.
• Participates in the selection, orientation, evaluation, development, and/or continued employment of faculty members, both full and part-time, on and off campus, may include clinical or laboratory settings.
• Oversees and implements health and safety regulations.
• Participates in the resolution of student grievances, student problems or complaints
• Implements the program review process, and the assessment of learning outcomes, for the program.
• Develops necessary relationships programmatic business and industry.
• Schedules classes, instructors and facilities to effectively meet the needs of students and best utilize the resources of the institution for the academic year including the summer, both day and evening.
• Assists with developing the annual operating budget, in conjunction with the Dean of the division for which he/she serves.
• Prepares a variety of reports and correspondence appropriate to assignment.
• Disseminates pertinent information to all division members. Informs division staff on college and departmental procedures and regulations including certification of time and attendance, purchasing, inventory, accreditation and transfer requirements, and safety requirements.
• Provide classroom instruction in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, college policies, and/or other legal requirements.
• Manage program facilities and equipment, including maintenance and control of inventory.
• Work in conjunction with the dean, department head where applicable, and program faculty on curriculum development and/or revision. Clinical education is to be formally designed and coordinated with the didactic curriculum. Cooperate with dean and department head, if applicable in program reviews, program policies and new program options.
• Coordinate the development and refinement of course materials including course syllabi and lab modules that reflect current practice.
• Coordinate the recruitment, selection, admission, advising, readmission, transfer, progression, retention efforts, and withdrawal of students within the program. Communicate with the Supervisors regularly with concerns and general information concerning progress of the program curriculum and students.
• Supervise the organization and revising of lecture instruction, lab sessions, and clinical experiences. Maintain program equipment and supplies. Participate in adding new technology and implementing related technology in lecture and lab.
• Coordinate the review and selection of new textbooks, laboratory equipment, supplies and other instructional materials used in the teaching-learning process.
• Maintain current professional credentials, state license, continuing professional development requirements, and expertise in respiratory therapy. Maintain ongoing professional development in the area of teaching and in the teaching-learning process.
• Develop and conduct professional growth activities and programs for full time, adjunct and clinical faculty as well as assisting with community programs.
• Observe instructional methods, provide immediate feedback and conduct performance evaluations and planning in all instructional settings.
• Lead the student program admission process.
• Complete graduation, certification/licensing, and board paperwork.
• Perform special duties related to the department as assigned by the Dean of the division or the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs.
Program Specific Duties:
• Accountable for the overall quality of the program
• The PD stays current with professional issues and is a member of a national pharmacy or education association and a state pharmacy association.
• Ensures there is a sufficient complement of appropriate program faculty and staff to meet the needs of the program and enables compliance with the Standards.
• In the simulated portion of the program, the PD takes necessary precautions to ensure an effective and safe level of direct supervision of students.
• Maintains records required in the Standards for at least three years or the time period specified by the institution’s policy.
• For the experiential component of the program, the PD selects adequate & appropriate sites and documents that each site has the proper licensing
• Determines that students will have the opportunity to practice a sufficiently wide range of activities in order to achieve SLOs
• Reviews training sites within the 12-month period prior to students being assigned/ active in a site and ensures affiliation agreements for all sites are completed and current.
• Ensures that the preceptor of record has received instruction regarding the requirements of the program and the
responsibilities of the site.
• Ensures that students’ achievement of educational objectives is evaluated appropriately to include SLOs leading to Entry-level or Advanced-level pharmacy technician job competencies.
Required Experience: Has at least five years of experience as a pharmacist of pharmacy technician in pharmacy practice prior to entering the position
Required Licenses or Certifications: Must be a licensed pharmacist or nationally certified pharmacy technician (If the PD is a pharmacy technician, he/she has graduated from an ASHP/ ACPE-accredited pharmacy technician training program or possesses or is actively pursuing, with a written plan for achieving, at least an associate’s degree; or has an appropriate state teaching credential.)
