Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain performance standards and pursue goals, objectives, and activities that promote the mission, vision and value statement of the College.

• Serve as lead coach for middle and high school robotics teams (e.g., FIRST LEGO League, VEX Robotics, FIRST Tech Challenge).

• Guide students through the design, build, programming, and testing of competition-ready robots.

• Support students in developing critical soft skills such as teamwork, communication, time management, and creative thinking.

• Ensure adherence to competition guidelines and safety protocols.

• Train and mentor teachers, volunteers, and mentors to facilitate sustainable robotics programs in schools and community organizations.

• Develop and deliver workshops, training sessions, and seasonal build sessions on robotics systems, coding, and competition strategy.

• Maintain a repository of instructional materials, lesson plans, and troubleshooting resources.

• Support the planning and execution of regional scrimmages, qualifying tournaments, camps, and robotics showcases.

• Collaborate with schools, youth organizations, and informal education partners to expand robotics access in underserved communities.

• Assist in equipment setup, inventory, and maintenance of robotics kits and tools.

• Track student participation, team progress, and program outcomes.

• Contribute to reports and documentation required by grants or partner organizations.

• Provide input on program growth, impact, and continuous improvement strategies.

• Foster, demonstrate, and actively participate in a culture of mutual respect for students, guests, and co-workers from all backgrounds, perspectives and abilities. Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and supervisors and utilize appropriate channels of communication within the college community concerning procedures and/or inquiries.

• Attend and participate in scheduled activities, which include graduation, open house/recruiting events as assigned, convocation, and required meetings. Share ideas and information, and work toward common department and College goals.

• Serve on college committees as a member or as chair. Serve on search committees.

• Participate in professional development activities that enhance effectiveness (convocation, LCTCS conference, etc.).

• Represent the college in a manner that promotes a professional and positive image.

• Adhere to College and LCTCS policies.

• Embrace college culture.

• Complete all required assignments prior to deadlines (Fletcher/LCTCS trainings, etc.).

• Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Education, or related field or an Associate’s degree plus 5 years of STEM related experience – or equivalent experience in robotics and youth mentoring.

 

Required Experience: Experience working with robotics platforms such as LEGO Mindstorms/EV3/Spike Prime, VEX, or FTC/FRC. Demonstrated ability to lead or assist in youth robotics programs or STEM enrichment activities. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for working with students of diverse backgrounds. Availability to work evenings and weekends for practices and events, as needed. Reliable transportation for travel throughout the BayouSTEM region.

 

Preferred Experience: Experience coaching competitive robotics teams. Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Scratch, Python, Blockly, RobotC). Knowledge of engineering design processes and project-based learning. Background in K–12 education or afterschool/out-of-school-time programming
