Duties and Responsibilities: • Teaches courses in the approved curriculum according to the course descriptions in the College Catalog and Student Handbook, the syllabi, and the published schedule of classes, ensuring that students achieve the stated course and program learning outcomes.
• Organizes instruction in classrooms and laboratories as evidenced in the learning management system, Canvas, utilizing course outlines, lesson plans, tests, discussion boards, and instructional materials such as textbooks, instruction sheets, and audiovisuals. Provides sufficient practice with kitchen tools and equipment to develop and master skill proficiency.
• Uses strategies and skills necessary to support student learning and prepares and delivers current and relevant course material in an understandable and motivating manner.
• Uses formative and summative assessments of student learning within assigned courses to inform instruction and improve student attainment of course objectives and program learning outcomes.
• Contributes to development and revision of programs and courses, assuring alignment within the program description and learning outcomes, course objectives and content, as well as college standards.
• Responsible for providing training in the competencies essential to success in the occupation including attitudes, job knowledge, and skills.
• Establishes a student and advisor relationship that provides guidance with regard to program choices and career possibilities and supports students’ educational growth through guided decision making.
• Evaluates follow-up data from completers and employers to obtain information concerning program effectiveness and relevance to improve the quality of the program where needed.
• Participates in local business and industry activities, attends commencement, convocation, faculty, departmental, and committee meetings, and other college events.
• Demonstrates and seeks professional growth and improvement, exhibits appropriate work ethics (attendance, cooperation, etc.), projects a professional attitude, and maintains a professional appearance.
• Demonstrates specialized knowledge and maintains expertise in the theory, skills, and andragogy of the Culinary Arts profession.
• Maintains a healthy, safe, and secure classroom/lab environment. Posts emergency evacuation routes in case of natural or other disasters.
• Is a committed, motivated self-starter who can initiate and complete work with little supervision and/or as a part of a team on larger projects.
• Supports student enrollment and retention by participating in college events, advising student organizations, and assisting with other activities as assigned.
• Collaborates with College personnel, planning menus, supervising students, hosting and executing events, and other responsibilities to ensure successful and memorable college fundraisers, community service events, luncheons, dinner events, festivals, etc.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Education: • Associate degree in culinary arts
• Must meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF) credentialing requirements

Required Experience: • 3 years work experience in the culinary and/or hospitality industry
• 3 years teaching experience in the culinary and/or hospitality discipline or related discipline

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Ability to adhere to all applicable Louisiana Community and Technical College Systems (LCTCS) policies and procedures
• Ability to instruct students in the completion of relevant projects
• Proficiency in using standard office equipment and networked computers; utilizing a variety of software such as the Internet and Microsoft Office; must effectively and appropriately use technology in the classroom
• An ability to create a positive learning environment for students using innovative, effective, and diverse teaching methods to engage students in their learning and enhance student success.
• Ability to use technology effectively and appropriately in the curriculum.
• Ability to work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultures (including traditional, non-traditional, and international students) and socio-economic backgrounds.
• Ability to ensure tests and other means of assessing the achievement of students are sufficiently accurate.
• Ability to be a committed, motivated self-starter who can initiate and complete work with little supervision and/or as a part of a team on larger projects.
• Promote technical and community college education.
• Ability to make independent decisions demonstrating good judgment.
• Oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical computations needed to complete job tasks.
• Skilled at planning, organizing, and prioritizing job duties to meet deadlines.
• Maintaining interpersonal professional working relationships at all levels, including students, peers, and administration

Required Licenses or Certifications: • Certified Culinary Educator (CCE®) certification or able to obtain within one year from date of hire
• ServSafe® certification
• ServSafe® Instructor/Proctor certification or able to obtain with six months from date of hire

Preferred Education: • Bachelor’s degree in culinary arts or closely related field

Preferred Experience: • 3 years post-secondary teaching experience
• 3 years online teaching experience
