Advertised Salary: $85,000-$100,000 Salary commensurate with education, experiences, and other requirements. Comprehensive benefit package (health care, vacation, etc.)

Summary of Position: Direct the operational and personnel activities of the various accounting functions within the Finance Unit in order to maintain accurate accounting and financial records and effective information services for the University. Provide counsel, training and direction to ensure University-wide compliance with policies, procedures, and good internal control practices.

 
Position Type: Staff  
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field.

 
Required Work Experience: Five years of demonstrated work experience in progressively more responsible and expansive work assignments in accounting.

Two years of management experience.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: CPA or MBA preferred

Higher education experience
 
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Manage the operation and personnel activities of the Accounting, Payroll, and Disbursements areas within the Finance Office.

Lead the annual financial and internal audits, including the preparation of all audit workpapers.

Prepare periodic and special reports including all or assigned elements of the University’s annual financial report.

Prepare financial analysis and projections on significant items impacting the financial statements.

Assist in developing and implementing new policies and procedures that impact assigned areas of responsibility as well as revise existing policies and procedures as necessary.

Monitor and review University financial activities and accounts.

Coordinate with University faculty and administrators regarding accounting procedures, Federal and state regulations, and for adherence to grant and award program guidelines.

Direct all post award grant accounting.

Coordinate and review staff investigations of accounting practices. Recommend and implement corrective action where indicated.

Initiate and/or participate in the design and implementation of process enhancement and automation efforts.

Direct the scheduling and completion of year-end and closing activities.

Prepare or approve journal entries to the accounting system.

Interview, hire, train and evaluate supervisory and support staff.

Report directly to the Associate Vice President for Finance.

Directly supervises Accounting, Payroll, and Disbursements areas.

Serve as backup to the Associate Vice President.

Carry out responsibilities in accordance with University policies, procedures and applicable laws.

Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information.

Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.

Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
 
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: Serve on various University committees as appointed.

 
Skills and Abilities: Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with a diverse group of fellow work associates, staff, faculty and students.

Recommend process improvement changes.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Organize, schedule and supervise staff personnel.

Maintain working knowledge of the Banner system and relevant software applications.
