About UNSW:
UNSW isn't like other places you've worked. Yes, we're a large organisation with a diverse and talented community doing extraordinary things. Together, we are driven to be thoughtful, practical and purposeful in everything we do.
As Australia's #1 university and one of the world's leading research institutions, our people are helping solve society's biggest challenges through world-class research, education and innovation. If you want a career where you can thrive, be challenged and make a genuine impact, you're in the right place.
About the role:
Are you a relationship builder who can turn industry conversations into practical opportunities for students?
UNSW Business School is looking for a Senior Industry Engagement Officer (Domestic) to grow our industry partnerships and help ensure our career and employability offerings remain closely connected to industry needs.
This externally focused role brings together business development, strategic relationship management and industry insight. You will identify and engage prospective partners, strengthen existing relationships and develop work-integrated learning (WIL) and career development opportunities for Business School and AGSM students.
You will also bring the voice of industry back into Career Accelerator by understanding employer needs, emerging skills and changing workforce trends, then using these insights to help keep our programs relevant and industry leading.
In this role, you will:
- Proactively identify and engage prospective industry partners that can provide WIL and career development opportunities.
- Build and manage a pipeline of prospective partners, moving opportunities from initial contact through to active engagement and delivery.
- Lead key processes to build and extend industry relationships and increase the range of WIL and career development opportunities available to undergraduate, postgraduate and AGSM students.
- Grow existing partnerships by identifying mutually beneficial opportunities across internships, practicum courses, mentoring and other career development activities.
- Build strong relationships with employers and work closely with academic and professional staff across the Business School.
- Develop a strong understanding of industry needs, workforce trends and the skills students need to succeed.
- Turn industry insights into practical recommendations that support the review and improvement of Career Accelerator programs and offerings.
- Track engagement activity, partnership development and outcomes, and provide clear data and reports to support planning and continuous improvement.
- Represent UNSW Business School at relevant industry events, meetings and forums.
About you:
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in relationship management, stakeholder engagement or business development, with a record of achieving results.
- A track record of identifying prospective partners, initiating new relationships and developing opportunities through to delivery.
- Strong relationship-management skills and the ability to build credibility with employers, academics, professional staff and other stakeholders.
- A strong understanding of industry needs and challenges, emerging workforce trends and the skills employers seek.
- The ability to use industry insight to make clear, practical recommendations that improve programs and offerings.
- Excellent communication, influencing, networking and presentation skills.
- Strong initiative, project-management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage several relationships, programs and priorities with minimal supervision.
- Confidence using client or student databases and reporting tools to track activity, manage opportunities and report on outcomes.
- A relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience, or equivalent competence gained through education, training and experience.
Substantial experience in tertiary education or a similar relevant field will be highly regarded. An understanding of emerging trends and good practice in WIL and career development, in Australia and internationally, would be advantageous.
Why this role matters:
This is more than a relationship-management role. You will actively grow the Business School’s connections with industry, expand opportunities for students and ensure industry perspectives help shape relevant, high-quality career and employability offerings.
The role reports to the Engagement Manager within Career Accelerator and Student Engagement and has no direct reports.
