The Opportunity
The ARC Centre of Excellence for Carbon Science and Innovation (ARC COE-CSI), led by UNSW, is seeking a Project Officer/Senior Project Officer to provide project, research administration and operational support across the Centre. You will work closely with Centre leadership, researchers and partner universities to support the day-to-day operation of the Centre and help coordinate the delivery of its research, reporting and strategic activities.
The role will involve coordinating project activities, reporting processes, workshops, seminars and events, maintaining Centre systems and website content, preparing communications and promotional materials, and providing high-level administrative and secretariat support. You will also contribute to stakeholder engagement, outreach activities and the development of Centre reports and communications. At Senior Project Officer level, you will take on greater responsibility and work independently for KPI monitoring, budgeting and financial analysis, policy development, annual reporting, outreach programs and communication and engagement initiatives.
You will bring relevant qualifications and experience in project, program or event coordination, together with strong written communication, organisational and stakeholder engagement skills. You will be confident managing competing priorities, working across a complex multi-stakeholder environment and producing high-quality communications, reports and digital content. At Senior Project Officer level, you will also bring demonstrated experience managing complex programs or events, working independently and contributing to budgeting, reporting and continuous process improvement.
This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and has no direct reports.
- Salary - Level 6/7:
- Level 6 - $108,021 to $115,233 per annum + 17% superannuation
- Level 7 - $118,483 to $128,233 per annum + 17% superannuation

- Appointment type: Fixed-term contract – 12-months with possible extension

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Carbon Science and Innovation (ARC COE-CSI) is a major 7-year initiative supported primarily by the Australian Research Council (ARC). The Centre is led by UNSW and partnering with a group of seven Australian universities and a suite of outstanding national and international Partner Organisations. The Centre’s purpose is to revolutionise carbon science and innovation for renewable energy generation and clean chemical production by using carbon catalysts as alternatives to critical minerals. Skills and Experience
Level 6
- Relevant tertiary qualifications with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Advanced communication skills, including demonstrated proficiency in content writing, editing and proofreading, along with the ability to research and analyse material and data to summarise key issues for use in official communications, promotions and reports.
- Creative content development skills, and experience in designing promotional campaigns and developing and managing digital content for web and social channels, including demonstrated ability to tailor content and messaging to audiences and channels.
- Demonstrated experience in event/project/program coordination with an understanding of the project life cycle and development of project plans and objectives including managing logistics, promotions, communications, documentation and reporting.
- Demonstrated high-level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive and professional relationships with staff at all levels and internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, accuracy and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
- Advanced level of computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications, web content management, analytics and reporting tools for website engagement and digital communications. Basic graphic design and simple video editing skills, and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite or other respective platforms are strongly desirable.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
Level 7 (in addition to the above)
- Proven ability to manage high-value programs and events, from conception to completion, including evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Excellent writing, analytical, and presentation skills, including the ability to produce high-quality reports and briefing materials.
- Desired experience in financial administration, including budget monitoring, procurement, purchase orders, invoice processing, reimbursements, credit card reconciliation and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated experience working independently in complex, multi-stakeholder environments with competing priorities and tight timelines.
