Research Assistant (Mindgardens)

  • Remuneration: $92,265 base pro-rata, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading

Mindgardens Neuroscience Network is a partnership between UNSW Sydney and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District that brings together research, clinical care, education and lived experience to improve mental health outcomes.

Our work focuses on turning evidence into practice, driving innovation in mental health care, building a capable and confident workforce, and creating better outcomes for people living with mental illness.

Details of the role

We’re looking for a Research Assistant to work as part of a collaborative partnership between Mindgardens and headspace Bondi Junction.

The position is based on-site at headspace Bondi Junction, and supports youth mental health research and service quality improvement projects that improve the quality, impact and effectiveness of care for young people. Working closely with researchers, clinicians, health professionals and young people, you will contribute to projects that inform real service change and better outcomes across the mental health system.

The Research Assistant is part of a multidisciplinary team and plays a key role in delivering high‑quality, youth‑focused research from first idea through to sharing results with the people who can use them.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Assist in the collection, management and analysis of data related to Mindgardens activities, including but not limited to, Youth Mental Health research projects and service evaluation.
  • Monitor, track and report on the status of project deliverables, as well as making sure key milestones are reached, and compare performance against the project plan.
  • Assist in the preparation of submissions including, but not limited to, grant applications, ethics applications, health district reports, conference abstracts and scientific journal articles.
  • Assist in the preparation of relevant communication and other dissemination documents, e.g., PowerPoint presentations.
  • Provide a high level of proactive project support to clinicians and other members of the project team, and key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.

Some key skills required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in health and behavioural sciences with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience in data management and statistical analysis, preferably through research projects involving people living with a mental illness or other vulnerable population groups.
  • Advanced time management, organisational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience providing effective customer service and support to clients at all levels.
  • Demonstrated computing skills including word processing (MS word), spreadsheets (MS Excel), and statistical analysis packages
  • Ability to make sound judgements and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting and contributing to projects and initiatives
  • Awareness of relevant National and NSW Health guidelines relating to youth mental healthcare.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
