Why your role matters
The Senior Admissions Officer (Genuine Student Compliance) plays a key role in supporting the integrity, quality, and compliance of UNSW’s international admissions processes.
Working within the Admissions team, you will provide specialist expertise in the assessment and management of Genuine Student (GS) assessments for international applicants from identified high-risk source countries. This role is responsible for ensuring admissions decisions are delivered accurately, consistently, and in line with University policy, TEQSA, ESOS requirements, and Department of Home Affairs guidelines.
You will manage complex admissions cases, exercise sound judgement in assessing applicant eligibility and document authenticity, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance compliance, operational efficiency, and applicant experience. The role also supports capability development across the team by providing guidance and quality assurance support to Admissions Officers and Processing Assistants.
The position reports to the Genuine Student Assessment Team Leader and has no direct reports.
Key Responsibilities

Assess international applications and manage Genuine Student (GS) assessments, including complex cases, document verification, and GS interviews in line with policy, legislation, and approved delegations

Ensure admissions decisions and processes comply with University policy, TEQSA, ESOS, and Department of Home Affairs requirements

Provide guidance, training, and quality assurance support to Admissions Officers and Admissions Processing Assistants to promote consistency and best practice

Support workload coordination and reporting activities to ensure timely and efficient processing during peak periods

Manage complex or sensitive admissions matters, escalating issues requiring policy interpretation or higher-level review where appropriate

Provide accurate advice and support to applicants, agents, and stakeholders on admissions processes, policies, and Genuine Student requirements

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimisation, standard operating procedures, reporting, and system enhancements

Represent the Admissions Office at relevant meetings, workshops, and engagement activities as required
Who You Are
You are a detail-oriented and collaborative professional with excellent communication skills who is aligned with UNSW’s values and committed to delivering high-quality student support. You will bring:

Experience in Genuine Student assessment and/or student visa processing

Understanding of Genuine Student requirements and relevant regulatory frameworks, including ESOS, TEQSA, and Department of Home Affairs guidelines

Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to apply policies, procedures, and sound judgement consistently and accurately

Experience providing guidance, mentoring, or quality assurance support within an operational environment

Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines during high-volume processing periods
Candidates will need to have ongoing working rights – this role is not available for sponsorship.
The role operates on a hybrid basis, Monday to Friday during business hours. As January is a peak operational period, candidates will be required to work throughout January and during the end-of-year shutdown period (excluding public holidays).
