Why your role matters

Partnering with stakeholders across the Division of Education and Student Experience (DESE), the role delivers high-quality analysis, dashboards, reporting, and evidence-based recommendations that inform strategic decision-making and continuous improvement.

Working with a wide range of educational, operational, and student data, the position translates complex information into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences. The role also collaborates closely with key University analytics and data teams to drive a coordinated, data-informed approach across the organisation.

Reporting to the Head of Analytics (Student Experience), this role has no direct reports.

Specific accountabilities include:

  • Analyse, and interpret complex datasets related to student experience, satisfaction, engagement, and operational metrics.
  • Partner with stakeholders across DESE portfolios to understand business problems, priorities and decision needs, and translate broad or ambiguous requests into clear analytical questions, fit for purpose scope and practical delivery plans.
  • Produce fit-for-purpose analytical outputs, including reports, dashboards, presentations and recommendations that support planning, prioritisation and continuous improvement.
  • Support teams to define intended outcomes, success measures, baselines, targets and performance indicators for initiatives, projects and services.
  • Provide evidence-based recommendations to enhance student experience, educational delivery, operational effectiveness and service improvement.
  • Work with technical colleagues, including analytics engineering and enterprise data teams, to translate business needs into workable data requirements and support consistent, trusted and effective use of data.

About You:  

  • Tertiary degree in a related area, or equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
  • Significant experience in data analysis, business intelligence or analytics partnering roles, preferably in a complex service environment.
  • Advanced SQL capability and strong experience using data visualisation tools (Power BI preferred) or equivalent
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences, influencing change and building strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong judgement, initiative and comfort working with ambiguity, including the ability to provide structured advice where business questions or data sources are not fully defined.
  • Experience in higher education or another complex service environment is desirable.
  • Experience using Python or similar analytical programming languages desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks for data processing and analysis is desirable but not essential.
