Details of the role

The Power BI Developer / Analyst is responsible for the design, build and deployment of Microsoft Power BI dashboards that visualise measures of variation in cancer care across South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). The role develops robust data models and reporting solutions to support data-driven decision making by delivering high-quality, accessible insights to multidisciplinary clinicians, researchers and executive stakeholders.

This role plays a critical part in turning complex clinical data into clear, actionable insights that inform better decisions and improve patient outcomes. Working at the intersection of data, technology and healthcare, you will design and deliver sophisticated dashboards, build scalable data models, and analyse large oncology datasets to highlight variation in care and outcomes. You will collaborate closely with clinicians, researchers and leaders to ensure insights are accurate, relevant and trusted, while also supporting users through documentation, training and self-service reporting. This is an opportunity to apply advanced Power BI expertise in a meaningful, real-world context where high-quality analytics directly support clinical improvement and strategic decision-making.

The role reports to Professor of Radiation Oncology, South West Sydney Clinical Campuses and will require occasional travel to St George Hospital.

Some key skills required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in computer science, information systems, data analytics, or equivalent experience as a Business Intelligence Developer in a large, complex organisation.
  • Proven end-to-end experience in Microsoft Power BI (Desktop, Service, DAX and Power Query), with strong data modelling, data warehousing, and ETL design skills for large and complex datasets.
  • Design, build and maintain high-quality, interactive Power BI dashboards and reports, applying best practice data visualisation techniques and features such as drill-through and dynamic filtering.
  • Extract, transform and integrate data from multiple oncology data sources.
  • Analyse and interpret complex clinical datasets to identify variation in clinical practice and patient outcomes, including supporting benchmarking and variation analysis across services and facilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends and generate meaningful insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear and accessible information for non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to engage and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
