 The Research Officer will play a key role in supporting two externally funded research projects:

• A structured evidence scoping and narrative review focused on healthy ageing and wellness in later life for a retirement living context; and
• An older driver road safety project, including the translation of research findings into practical implementation resources.

A central focus of the role is supporting research translation - transforming complex research findings into practical, accessible training packages and implementation resources for end users such as road safety practitioners, clinicians, and community stakeholders, and transforming narrative review findings into wellness programs for retirement village settings.

The position will also contribute to a range of general research activities supporting ongoing projects within the Ageing Futures Institute, including the Cog-Coach-Brain trial, such as content development, data management and analysis, and support for online trials.

About the role

• $103k - $110k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
• Fixed Term – (until 31 December 2026)
• Part time (28 hours)

The role reports to Professor Kaarin Anstey and has no direct reports.

Specific responsibilities for this role include:

• Lead and support the translation of research findings into practical, evidence-informed outputs, including: training packages for practitioners and implementation guides and toolkits/reports to support real-world adoption for a variety of audiences. Guidance is available from the research team if required.
• Conduct comprehensive literature searches and support the development of a structured narrative review of high-quality Australian and international evidence relating to healthy ageing.
• Prepare and produce detailed high-quality written reports, detailing methodologies of the review, summaries of evidence, ensuring the final outcomes and resources are practical and aligned with project sponsor(s).
• Support the coordination and delivery of online trials, including participant-facing materials and data collection processes.
• Develop and update research-informed content for digital platforms (e.g. Moodle) to support intervention delivery and user engagement.
• Manage and organise research and reference databases, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and research integrity.
• Undertake data cleaning, management, and preliminary analysis to support research projects.
• Liaise with the project team and contribute to meetings and reporting processes.
• Coordinate day-to-day research activities, ensuring competing project milestones and timelines are met within scope and quality expectations.
• Monitor research progress and proactively identify and resolve issues related to methodology, data quality, or delivery.
• Contribute to ethics documentation (where relevant), reporting requirements, and compliance with research governance standards.
• Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
• Cooperate with all health and safety policy and procedures of the University and take all reasonable care to ensure your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself and others.

About the successful applicant
(Selection Criteria)

To be successful in this role you will have:

• A university degree in public health, epidemiology, health sciences, psychology, gerontology, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated experience in research translation, including translating research into practical tools, training materials, or implementation resources and adapting content for non-academic audiences (e.g. practitioners, clinicians, community stakeholders) and digital content.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting systematic reviews, literature reviews and evidence syntheses (e.g., systematic, scoping, or narrative reviews).
• Knowledge of healthy ageing, chronic disease, or older adult health and wellbeing domains (e.g., dementia, frailty, mental health, social isolation).
• Strong analytical skills, including the ability to critically appraise and synthesise complex research evidence.
• Experience working with academic databases and reference management software (e.g., EndNote, Covidence, Scopus, PubMed).
• Experience in qualitative synthesis and/or quantitative data analysis (desirable).
• Excellent written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to produce clear, structured reports and research outputs for academic and non-academic audiences.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across academic and industry contexts.
• Highly developed organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
