The Opportunity
The Senior Project Officer will be in charge of managing the administrative, reporting and staff-related tasks of large research projects led by Professor Andrea Morello. These are highly competitive, milestone-driven research projects that bring large external funding to the University, and are accompanied by complex management obligations. This project seeks to develop hardware components for a silicon-based quantum computer. The research takes place within a diverse, dynamic team of students and researchers in the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at UNSW. The position entails experience in managing complex and time-critical accounting, reporting and personnel related tasks. The associated specific responsibilities are listed below. The role of Senior Project Officer reports to Professor Andrea Morello and has no direct reports.
- Salary, Level 7: $113,926 - $123,302 per annum + 17% superannuation
- Full Time
- Fixed-Term to April 2027
- Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia (on campus attendance required)

Skills and Experience:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Proven project experience, with an understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
- Strong experience in research project administration and financial management.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a complex academic environment.
- High-level stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Sound understanding of university governance, grant management, and compliance requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Commitment to support and facilitate the work of researchers and academics in the team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to liaise with a diverse range of people from government, industry and academia at different levels in their organisations.
- Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
