Why Your Role Matters
The Creative Services Manager supports the Head of Brand Marketing, Societal Impact and the wider university with brand design at UNSW. The Creative Services team provides design services to many of the brand, marketing, event, print and digital collateral needs of the University. This is a manager role focused on using creative, innovative and audience-centric design to elevate UNSW’s brand distinctiveness and engage learners, alumni, donors, industry, government, enterprise partners, employees and community across a variety of channels.
The Creative Services Manager reports to the Head of Brand Marketing, SI and has five direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the design team, fostering creativity, audience focus, excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Provide strategic creative direction and hands-on design leadership across projects.
- Advise senior stakeholders on brand marketing and content strategies that strengthen UNSW’s reputation and societal impact.
- Oversee end-to-end creative projects across print and digital, from briefing through execution and approvals.
- Ensure all creative outputs align with brand standards and deliver innovative design solutions.
- Collaborate with external agencies to develop campaign materials when required.
- Equip the Creative Services team with the right tools, skills, and capabilities through reviews, training, and resourcing recommendations.
- Drive innovation in creative delivery, including AI, automation, Canva/Adobe Express templates, and scalable brand tools.
- Support project prioritisation and process improvements to strengthen brand outcomes and team efficiency.
- Contribute to a collaborative, customer-focused culture within the Societal Impact Marketing & Content team.
- Foster a positive team culture centred on creativity, wellbeing, collaboration, and meaningful impact.
- Manage budgets, timelines, and documentation to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and on schedule.
Who You Are
- A highly experienced creative leader with relevant qualifications and extensive expertise across design, brand marketing, and student recruitment environments.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office, with experience in Canva considered an advantage.
- A strong visual storyteller and art director, with the ability to translate complex ideas into compelling, audience-centric creative solutions.
- Experienced in brand governance, including developing and optimising brand guidelines, templates, approval workflows, and quality assurance processes.
- Skilled in managing complex stakeholder relationships and delivering creative projects within large or matrixed organisations, ideally within higher education.
- Adept at balancing competing priorities, applying sound judgement, flexibility, and creativity to deliver high-quality outcomes on time and on brief.
- A collaborative and supportive people leader with experience coaching teams managing high-volume creative workflows and driving exceptional customer service.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and confident leading multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Experienced working within Agile environments and using project management tools such as Wrike, Trello, and Jira.
- An excellent communicator with strong written and verbal skills, and a proven ability to influence, negotiate, and build strong stakeholder relationships.
