Why your role matters
The Academic Learning Facilitator is a key role within the Student Learning Team in the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education (PVCE) portfolio. The position is responsible for teaching in UNSW enabling education programs, particularly the University Preparation Program (UPP), and providing academic learning support that enhances student success and engagement.
Working closely with the Program Director, Enabling Programs and Pathways, and the Head of Student Learning, the role delivers teaching, academic skills support, advice, facilitation, and course coordination where required. The successful candidate will contribute to an inclusive and positive student learning experience while building strong relationships with UNSW academic staff.
The role reports to the Lead, Learning Hub, with a secondary reporting line to the Program Director, Enabling Programs and Pathways, and has no direct reports.
Specific accountabilities include:
- Teach into enabling education programs and courses offered by the portfolio including the University Preparation Program and where required perform the role of course convenor. This may include supervision of casual academic staff.
- Provide front-line academic learning support using a variety of educational technologies and methodologies including one-on-one consultations, group sessions/workshops, and other university events where required (e.g. UNSW Orientation and Open Days).
- Positively contribute to a service-oriented environment of innovation, continuous improvement and teaching excellence in the provision of enabling education programs and courses and academic learning facilitation.
About You:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience relevant to educational programs and initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience with and an understanding of issues facing tertiary education students of a diverse range of equity backgrounds and the key issues currently impacting accessibility to education and academic learning support and services.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, course design, formative and summative assessment and learning and teaching approaches that promote student academic learning and development.
- Demonstrated ability to utilise and implement educational technologies including web-based learning management systems to facilitate learning and the ability to identify avenues for innovation and improvement in learning resources.
- Demonstrated ability working in an online learning and teaching environment.
- Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on academic language and learning strategies/initiatives with a range of people at different levels within a higher education context.
- Strong service orientation and student focused together with excellent interpersonal and communication skills that enable building and maintaining positive professional relationships with staff at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to contribute positively and proactively to the team’s work.
- Demonstrated self-motivation, initiative and judgement and the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
This role requires the successful candidate to hold a valid paid Working with Children’s Check.
