Why Your Role Matters:
The Media and Events Manager is responsible for the development of creative and engaging content to support the social, website, multimedia, research and communications needs of UNSW, with a focus on the HowWeSurvive Project.
HowWeSurvive is a long-term initiative focused on improving how disaster recovery is understood and delivered, with an emphasis on community-centred approaches. Through research, education, advocacy and collaboration, the project works with communities, partners and government to strengthen recovery and resilience practices and support more effective, locally informed responses to disasters.
Our ambition is for HowWeSurvive to become a global contributor in its field, with its website, social media and events playing a central role. This position will play a pivotal role in achieving this through high-quality content, strategic communications and impactful events.
The role reports to the Professor of the HowWeSurvive Project and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, development and delivery of high-quality, strategic content across website, social media, multimedia, publications and research communications
- Oversee the end-to-end content lifecycle including strategy, scheduling, workflow management and quality control
- Drive media and content work plans aligned to project and organisational strategy
- Manage and curate digital storytelling content to enhance engagement and reach
- Build and manage relationships with media partners and external service providers
- Plan, manage and deliver virtual and in-person events
- Draft, edit and approve content to ensure accuracy, consistency and alignment with UNSW standards
- Support media and public relations opportunities to enhance visibility and communication outcomes
- Contribute to the development of the HowWeSurvive world map of disaster recovery stories

Skills and Experience Summary:
- Relevant degree with subsequent relevant experience, or equivalent competence gained through education, training and experience
- Demonstrated experience in media, public relations, writing and social media
- Experience in event planning and delivery
- Expertise in website management and digital content production across web and social platforms
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
- Strong knowledge of content marketing techniques, analytics tools and social media platforms
- Demonstrated ability to understand audiences and deliver high-impact messaging
- Ability to apply creativity, judgement and initiative to develop innovative content and solutions
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
