Position Summary

The Lecturer / Senior Lecturer (Education Focused), Discipline Lead – Psychiatry, Rural, delivers high-quality teaching and leads the coordination of psychiatry education within a rural medical program. The role focuses on enhancing student learning through immersive rural clinical experiences and strong engagement with Local Health Districts and primary care networks.

The position supports the development of clinical placements, contributes to curriculum delivery, and fosters rurally relevant teaching and research initiatives. It also involves building collaborative partnerships across UNSW and external stakeholders to support student progression and educational excellence.

At Senior Lecturer level, the role includes broader leadership in education and curriculum, including mentoring staff, and contributing to teaching innovation across UNSW Rural.

This position reports to the Director of Medical Education at the identified campus and has no direct reports.

Skills & Experience

At Level B

  • A BMedMD, MBBS (or equivalent medical degree), and Fellowship of a Specialist Medical College (including but not limited to ACEM, ACRRM, RACP, RACGP, RANZCOG, RACS), and currency of medical registration in New South Wales.
  • Experience in discipline specific field of clinical medicine relative to the role, and a commitment to high quality teaching with a passion for rural medical education.
  • Demonstrated experience in large and small group teaching, and ability to apply knowledge and modern medical curricula and teaching methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising and coordinating student assessment and examinations including using educational technologies and online delivery methods.

At Level C (in addition to Level B)

  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills and a record of solid achievement contributing to administration and collaborating in academic and/or professional environments.
  • Significant expertise within a relevant sub-disciplinary area, including module convenorship and committee work.
  • Proven record of achievement and excellence in teaching and supervision at undergraduate level with a strong commitment to rural health education.
