Why your role matters
The Project Manager – Experience & Belonging plays a pivotal role within the Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Success portfolio in the Division of Education & Student Experience. This position will lead the final phase of the University’s Belonging and Onboarding Project, one of five major initiatives within the university-wide Student Experience Program designed to enhance the overall student experience and support the University’s strategic vision, Progress for All.
In this role, the Project Manager will oversee the delivery of the final stage of the project’s three-year implementation plan. This includes guiding the successful rollout of technology solutions, transitioning successful pilot initiatives into business-as-usual operations, and establishing a university-wide framework to monitor and measure belonging initiatives to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project beyond its lifecycle.
As a senior member of a small, high-impact project team, the Project Manager will play a key role in coordinating stakeholders and driving delivery across a complex university environment. The role requires strong experience in communicating project progress, risks and issues, while ensuring that technology-enabled solutions align with organisational priorities and deliver meaningful value to the University.
The Project Manager reports directly to the Director, Engagement & Student Success and does not have direct reports.
Specific accountabilities include:
- Lead the successful implementation of a new student engagement platform, including the identification of other technology solutions that can connect with the platform to continue to help personalise the student onboarding experience at scale.
- Direct responsibility for the implementation of the University’s recently developed Belonging Framework including engagement of faculty stakeholders for faculty level ownership and the development of a back end reporting tool to provide data to senior stakeholders on the university’s progress against the framework on an annual basis.
- In consultation with the Director, Engagement & Student Experience, co-design, develop and produce an end of project report identifying elements of the project to move to BAU including transitional plans and budgets.
About You:
- Relevant tertiary qualification, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering high-impact Power BI dashboards that synthesised large, complex datasets into clear, decision-ready insights, enabling stakeholders to identify trends, risks, and performance gaps (e.g. through robust data modelling, DAX measures, and stakeholder-driven visual design).
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining large and complex datasets, using advanced Excel techniques to ensure data quality, accurate matching, and consistency across sources (including robust validation, reconciliation, and error-checking processes).
- Experience in data collection and analysis for evaluation/monitoring purposes, preferably in the context of student initiatives in higher education
- Excellent organisational skills, a high attention to detail and an ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
- High proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint to produce high quality professional documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including experience writing reports and communicating data insights and evaluative findings compelling to various stakeholders.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
