Position Summary
The Research Assistant (Exercise Physiologist) plays a key role in the Keeping the Body in Mind – Primary Care (KBIM-Primary) program, based at the UNSW Health Translation Hub. KBIM-Primary supports people experiencing mental health distress to improve their physical health and wellbeing, with a focus on preventing and managing cardiometabolic risk.
Reporting to the Project Manager, Mindgardens, this position delivers hands-on exercise physiology intervention sessions to study participants within a research context, while also providing administrative and research support to ensure the successful delivery of project milestones. The role involves participant screening and recruitment, data collection and analysis, coordination of research activities, and contribution to ethics applications, grant submissions, and research outputs.
Working within a multidisciplinary research team, the Research Assistant also builds referral pathways with general practitioners and other stakeholders, supports student clinical placements, and maintains accurate research records and databases.
Skills & Experience
- Accredited Exercise Physiologist through Exercise Sports Science Australia.
- Demonstrated clinical experience as an accredited exercise physiologist, with consumers with mental illness.
- Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications including Microsoft 365 products and SPSS (desirable).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and analytical abilities.
- Knowledge and/or experience working with people with lived experience of mental illness.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
- Knowledge of health and safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
