Position Summary

The Postdoctoral Fellow (Level A) will contribute to the research program of the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA), UNSW, within the Discipline of Psychiatry & Mental Health. The role provides advanced statistical expertise to support epidemiological research across CHeBA-led consortia and collaborative projects, with a focus on neuroepidemiology of dementia and cognitive ageing.

The appointee will conduct and coordinate analyses of large-scale international longitudinal and administrative datasets, undertake data harmonisation and preparation, and develop and implement advanced statistical methodologies to enhance research quality and output. The position involves contributing to scholarly publications, presenting findings at conferences, supporting research student supervision, and assisting in the development of grant applications.

Skills & Experience

  • A PhD in Biostatistics, Data Science, Psychology, or a related discipline, with demonstrated relevant work experience in epidemiology, medical and health research or a related field.
  • An excellent academic track record with demonstrated and proven experience in the use of statistical packages such as R, STATA, SAS, SPSS in performing statistical procedures commonly used in the analysis of epidemiological or medical data such as imputation of missing data, data harmonisation, linear mixed modelling, structural equation modelling, or twin data analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills together with excellent writing skills with demonstrated experience in writing high quality scientific papers and technical reports.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
