Why Your Role Matters:
The Senior Business Analyst leads complex business analysis activities in support of the UNSW India Program, with a primary focus on the Research Stream. Working closely with academic and professional staff, the role is responsible for scoping and defining research-related business needs, processes, and requirements to ensure solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned with UNSW’s strategic objectives.
The role influences business and technology decisions, supports the enablement of research at UNSW India and contributes to strengthening analysis practices across the University.
The Senior Business Analyst reports to the BA Manager and has no direct reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead business analysis activities for the UNSW India Program - Research Stream, supporting the definition and delivery of research-related processes and systems.
- Partner with academic and professional staff to identify, analyse, and document research business needs aligned to UNSW’s strategic objectives.
- Facilitate workshops to define scope, elicit requirements, and build stakeholder alignment across University and Program teams.
- Support the development of scope briefs and options analysis.
- Translate business needs into clear requirements and user stories, ensuring traceability through to delivery.
- Develop solution briefs outlining proposed approaches, process impacts, and data requirements.
- Design and document current and future-state processes, identifying opportunities for improvement and scalability.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships and collaborate with technology and delivery teams to ensure fit-for-purpose outcomes.
- Support development of testing and validation activities to ensure solutions meet agreed business requirements.
Who You Are:
- You bring strong experience as a Business Analyst within higher education, research institutions, or research-focused agencies, with a solid understanding of how research is established, governed, funded, and delivered.
- You understand the operational and strategic requirements of supporting research initiatives and can translate research needs into practical, scalable business and system solutions, ideally within complex university environments.
- You have experience delivering business analysis across large, complex organisations and leading strategically significant initiatives.
- You are skilled in requirements elicitation, solution design, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement, and are comfortable working in structured and agile delivery environments.
- You communicate and facilitate effectively with academic staff, professional teams, technical specialists, and senior stakeholders, bringing strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and familiarity with enterprise or research-related systems are desirable.
