About the Role

UNSW is ranked among the world’s top 20 universities and is globally recognised for its research excellence and impact. Internally, the Division of Research & Enterprise (DVCRE) leads the strategic direction and performance of research and innovation with the Research Solutions team in IT supporting their technical needs.

There are multiple significant change initiatives underway across the university, and this role plays a key part in helping it succeed. Working closely with the Domain Change Lead, you’ll help shape and deliver end-to-end change activities that help people navigate, adopt and thrive through change. You’ll be working on a major strategic program that spans systems, processes and ways of working, the kind of change that’s complex, fast-moving and meaningful. You don’t need to be an expert in the domain or system; curiosity, adaptability and strong change craft matter far more.

The role reports directly to the Change Lead, Research Solutions, IT. The role has no direct reports.

About the role

As Change Manager, you will:

  • Lead and undertake detailed impact assessments and use the insights to tailor the delivery of change management interventions, including consideration of the UNSW change landscape and existing activities.
  • Engage with stakeholders to design change plans, and build trust and ownership.
  • Design and facilitate stakeholder workshops distilling findings into tangible outputs.
  • Develop stakeholder engagement plans and execute with the project business sponsor and leadership team.
  • Identify change risks and barriers, and implement proactive interventions to address them.
  • Develop and maintain SharePoint sites and other comms artefacts and materials.
  • Develop and deliver a plan for behavioral and capability uplifts and associated communication and engagement campaigns.
  • Undertake a change training needs analysis, and develop and deliver change training plans for impacted stakeholders.
  • Continuously monitor and report on change readiness and adoption developing relevant interventions.
  • Develop and deliver localized, targeted and actionable change management plans and materials to build and support change intervention activitie,
  • Design and deliver support materials that are clear, contextual and sustainable.
  • Prepare for a clean handover to BAU with mechanisms for ongoing reinforcement and feedback.
  • Be comfortable working with strong personalities and having difficult conversations.
  • Have the ability to work independently and also take direction as part of team.
  • Balance working quickly with delivering high quality, well considered outputs
  • Work hand-in-glove with the technical and business project teams to integrate change management activities into the overall project plan.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other change resources impacting similar stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships. 
  • Apply contemporary change management methodologies.
  • Change analysis and planning
  • Lead change impact and readiness assessments, using insights to shape tailored change strategies aligned to the broader UNSW change landscape.
  • Identify change risks, barriers and dependencies, and design proactive interventions to address them.
  • Develop integrated change management plans that align with project delivery milestones.
  • Stakeholder engagement and facilitation
  • Engage stakeholders and leaders to co-design change approaches, building trust, ownership and alignment.
  • Design and facilitate workshops to surface insights and translate them into clear, actionable outputs.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other change resources impacting shared stakeholder groups.
  • Communication, training and capability uplift
  • Develop clear, engaging and visually effective change communication materials and campaigns.
  • Undertake training needs analysis and design practical training and capability uplift approaches for impacted stakeholders.
  • Maintain change artefacts and collaboration spaces (e.g. SharePoint) to support engagement and adoption.
  • Adoption, readiness and transition
  • Monitor and report on change readiness and adoption, adjusting interventions as needed.
  • Design and deliver targeted, localised support materials that are practical and sustainable.
  • Support a clean transition to BAU, including mechanisms for ongoing reinforcement and feedback.
  • Ways of working
  • Work closely with technical and business project teams to embed change activities into delivery plans.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Balance pace with quality, working autonomously while remaining aligned with program direction.

Who you are:

  • Experience developing practical change artefacts such as change impact assessments, readiness assessments and training plans, and translating analysis into actionable plans.
  • Experience delivering change management within large and complex organisations (within other universities desirable).
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and consultation skills, including with senior leaders, and the ability to build trust, influence and mediate effectively.
  • Ability to quickly access and understand unique and complex stakeholder groups, and work in collaboration to find solutions.  
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience developing concise, well-structured and visually effective change communication materials to support engagement and adoption.
  • Proven workshop design and facilitation skills (experience in human centred design a plus).
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cohesively in federated teams.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience delivering change management on mid to large projects or programs, including operating with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Knowledge of change management methodologies, tools and governance, and current trends.
  • Tertiary qualification in change management, behavioural psychology, communications, business management, etc. or equivalent experience.
