Position Summary:

The Senior Project Officer plays a key role in delivering the faculty’s operational and strategic objectives, supporting projects that enable UNSW to achieve academic excellence, social engagement, and global impact. The position works closely with stakeholders across all levels of the faculty, contributing to planning and managing multiple concurrent projects including scoping, stakeholder management, implementing effective project management and methodology, communications plans, identifying and proactively managing and mitigating risks, reporting and evaluation.

The successful candidate will bring strong project coordination skills to enable them to effectively support diverse projects. This individual will demonstrate a keen ability to adapt these skills across various business areas, showcasing a strong willingness to expand their knowledge and understanding of different facets of the school. We have multiple interesting faculty projects happening at different phases across the school and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to see the results of these projects implemented and how their input has impacted change.

The Senior Project Officer reports to the Office of the Faculty Executive Director, currently Strategic Implementation Manager.

 

Skills and Experience Summary:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Proven project coordination experience, with an in-depth understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
  • Affinity with Project Management methodologies such as Waterfall, PM², PMBOK, Prince, Agile methodologies. Formal PM qualifications are seen as desirable.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in the development of robust solutions to problems.
  • Sound stakeholder management skills, demonstrating success working collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively preparing project documentation, processes and reports, and advanced competency in the use of Microsoft Office and project coordination applications.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
