Examination Supervisors at UNSW play a key role in delivering safe, fair and well-run exam sessions for our students. In this casual role, you will help ensure exams are conducted consistently and professionally by following established procedures, monitoring students, checking IDs, and responding appropriately to any issues that arise.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Set up exam venues, materials and seating in line with detailed exam instructions for each session.
- Supervise students during exams, including actively monitoring the room, verifying student identity and responding to questions and incidents.
- Proactively invigilate by remaining alert and visible, regularly circulating through the venue, and identifying potential issues early (e.g. misconduct, distressed students, technical problems).
- Support both in-person and technology-assisted exams using UNSW processes and tools.
- Follow UNSW exam policies, procedures and integrity requirements, escalating concerns to the Exams Team where needed.
- Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures and take reasonable care for the wellbeing of yourself, students and colleagues.
- For Supervisor-in-Charge roles: lead a small team of supervisors and coordinate the smooth running of the exam ranging from 60 students to 300 student
About You
We’re looking for people who can bring professionalism, reliability and a calm presence to a busy exam environment. A successful Examination Supervisor or Supervisor-in-Charge will be:
- Calm and flexible under pressure – able to manage queues, last-minute changes and large cohorts while maintaining a reassuring and professional manner.
- Team-oriented – able to work collaboratively with other supervisors, Supervisors-in-Charge and the Exams Team to deliver a consistent student experience.
- Accurate and detail-focused – able to follow procedures exactly and complete paperwork/records with a high degree of accuracy.
- Familiar with the Microsoft Office suite (particularly Outlook, Excel and Teams) and comfortable using a laptop in the exam room (e.g. for attendance lists, incident reports or communications). Highly desirable.
- Proactive in invigilation – you don’t wait for issues to arise; you actively monitor the room, support students appropriately and escalate concerns early.
- Knowledgeable about exam policies and procedures, or willing to quickly learn and apply UNSW’s exam rules, code of conduct and integrity standards.
- Organised and dependable – punctual, reliable and able to work with limited supervision.
- Committed to safety – aware of health and safety responsibilities and willing to attend relevant training.
Availability & training
Because exams run to strict schedules, availability is critical. We are seeking applicants who are:
- Available across ALL days and ALL sessions (morning, afternoon and evening) during the main exam round.
- Term 1 2026: Training Day: Thursday 30th April | Main Exam Round: 1st May – 14th May (incl Saturdays)
- Term 2 2026: Training Day: Thursday 13th August | Main Exam Round: 14th August – 27th August (incl Saturdays)
- Term 3 2026: Training Day: Thursday 26th November | Main Exam Round: 27th November – 10th December (incl Saturdays)
- Available to attend a paid training session prior to the exam period, which will cover exam procedures, technology, incident handling and use of exam venues.
- Able to commit to the full duration of any allocated exam session
