The STEMM Champions program provides targeted training in STEMM communication, storytelling and inclusive outreach. It equips participants with the skills and confidence to design and deliver impactful experiences that break down barriers, improve access to education and inspire diverse audiences to see STEMM as accessible and exciting.

The STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) Champions Senior Project Officer supports the planning and delivery of the new STEMM Champions pilot program in 2026. The Senior Project Officer works closely with stakeholders across the Faculties of Science, Engineering, Medicine and Health, and Business to deliver the program in alignment with its new strategic and operational objectives.

The Senior Project Officer is responsible for the end-to-end project management of the pilot including the development, implementation, evaluation and day-to-day administration of the program. The role involves creating and maintaining strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to enable the success of the program.


About the role

  • $113k - $123k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed Term – 8 months – (to December 22nd, 2026)
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)

The role reports to the EDI Manager in the Faculty of Science with a dotted line into the STEMM Champions Academic Lead and Associate Dean Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. It has no direct reports.

Specific responsibilities for this role include:

  • Work with the STEMM Champions Academic Lead to provide practical and proactive project management to achieve the operational and strategic goals of the program while facilitating the effective delivery of the pilot.
  • Develop program content, structures, and administrative procedures in consultation with the STEM Champions Academic Lead and other key stakeholders.
  • Manage the delivery of key program elements such as training workshops, sourcing guest speakers, planning events, monitoring budgets, and evaluating and revising plans as necessary.
  • Coordinate and implement the administration of all pilot program activities including preparing materials for various workshops and events related to the pilot.
  • Contribute to the general planning processes of the pilot program in consultation with relevant Faculties, divisions, support teams, external facilitators and other key stakeholders.
  • Manage the recruitment and induction process of the pilot program participants across the different Faculties.
  • In conjunction with staff from the relevant Faculties, regularly review, evaluate and manage the requirements of the pilot program.
  • Facilitate the development of an online resource hub with program-relevant content that can be accessed by the participants.
  • Monitor, track, and report on the status of project deliverables to ensure time, cost and quality metrics are in line with approved project plans for assigned projects.
  • Assess and manage risks and issues related to the pilot program, providing solutions where applicable.
  • Facilitate and support engagement with external stakeholders and potential partner organisations, including the development and management of communications with key stakeholders, ensuring effective and productive collaboration.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
  • Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.

About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline with subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of relevant education, training and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated experience independently delivering projects within agreed timeframes.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering training and development programs associated with higher education or professional development.
  • Demonstrated experience in collecting and analysing project-related data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives and issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with sensitive and confidential matters.
  • High level communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to build relationships and interact effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Proactive working style demonstrating efficiency, initiative and attention to detail.
  • High level computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
