Why Your Role Matters:

The Data Officer is responsible for maintaining data quality control and management (such as data cleaning, data query resolution, data mapping and database design, development, implementation) and continued functioning of electronic databases to facilitate the conduct of research studies.

The incumbent will work predominantly with REDCap to provide data solutions for clinical data collection and study management.

This position is within the Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program and reports to the Clinical Data Scientist Manager. This position has no direct reports.

Skills and Experience:

  • Graduate biomedical science qualifications, computer or other medical qualifications including Nursing with relevant experience in the conduct of clinical research.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in clinical database design and construction, data management, data cleaning, data query resolution and data mapping.
  • Demonstrated experience in the implementation and use of 21 CFR part 11 compliant data systems.
  • Sound knowledge of medical terminology, CDISC, CDASH, Clinical research and clinical trials processes.
  • Experience with dashboard design in Power BI or Tableau viewed favorably.
  • Experience with REDCap database design, build, and data management viewed favourably.
  • Experience with data and data extraction from general practice sites and tertiary sites from a wide range of databases is highly regarded.
  • Proven knowledge of International Council for Harmonisation Good Clinical Research Practice Guidelines (ICH GCP) as governed by the International Council for Harmonisation.
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience integrating several complex databases to produce customised reports and data extractions is highly regarded.
  • Experience in programming languages such as SQL, Python, statistics language such as SAS or Stata, and tools such as git.
  • Previous experience in Hepatitis C research or other infectious diseases clinical trials would be an advantage.
  • Experience in advanced technical statistical data management and programming skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise own workload and work independently as well as an effective member of a team.
  • Proven initiative, analytical and problem-solving skills, capacity to meet deadlines and ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
